Re: Allama Iqbaal and his role in Pakistan's Independance
There seems to be a lot of confusion and disinformation regarding Indian National Anthem and National Song, so here are some clarifications:
India's National Anthem is "Jana Gana Mana", written by Shri R. Tagore.
India's National Song is "Vande Mantaram", written by Shri B.C. Chatterjee. Here's the link.

Iqbal's "Saare jahan se accha" is not the national song of India. This poem was written in 1906. The first two lines of the poem are:
Religion does not teach us to bear ill-will among ourselves
We are of Hind, our homeland is Hindustan.
But Iqbal later repudiated the secular sentiment behind the poem, and wrote Tarana-e-Milli (Anthem of the Religious Community) in 1910, the above mentioned verses were replaced by :
Central Asia and Arabia are ours, Hindustan is ours
We are Muslims, the whole world is our homeland.
And for this reason he is regarded by many as the father of Pakistani Pan-Islamic Nationalism.
Re: Allama Iqbaal and his role in Pakistan's Independance
^ He was not a Pakistani in so far as much as Pakistan the 'official entity' was only created in 1947. Apart from that, every thing about him is Pakistani. His philosophy was the 'spritual drive' behind the formation of Pakistan. He was extremely critical of the social order in India, believing that even in the Muslim-majority provinces of British India, Muslims were discrminated against. He says:
Mullah ko jo hai Hind main sajdey ki ijazat,
Nadan ye samjhta hai kay Islam hai azaad.
On a wider note, Iqbal is probably loved and appreciated more than Jinnah. Whereas Jinnah was the cold, aloof statemean, it was Iqbal that infused the hearts of the Muslims with the desire to have their own country. Jinnah is seen more as the vehicle by which this desire was carried out.

cold aloof statesman? you have some nerve.
Without jinnah it wouldn't have come to being. No one else couldn've united the masses the way that he did because he held fast to his principles. Idealogues hold too dearly to their idealogy and are usually unfit to sort out ground realities. I seriously doubt that anyone but the elite educated segment would understand the complex poetry of iqbal. While he had his contribution, it was nothing compared to Quaid-e-azam's.
Re: Allama Iqbaal and his role in Pakistan's Independance
Qaid-e-azam and Allama iqbal are the key figures who played the vital role in independence. Though both of them have their importance at different level yet we can not negate that one was superior or that particular one was the key behind independence.
Iqbal, played with his words and made the muslims realize what they were and what they are .. ..
