Allam Ghallam

Heard this term after a long time in a drama. Mother was saying to her pregnant daughter ‘aisi haalat main khane ka khayal rakha karo, allam ghallam mat khaya karo’.

Now whats actually this allam ghallam? Was that a food item or something not suitable for eating and used as food by people during some troublesome time (like famine, etc). :hmmm:

Re: Allam Ghallam

Onion and Garlic, which are part of this, are banned legally, but pundas make systems and jats are known for bulldozing the system :D

Re: Allam Ghallam

you mean bomba bomb..in mumbaiyya lingo

Re: Allam Ghallam

Onion and Garlic are forebidden in Brahmins. Ho they make curry then?

Re: Allam Ghallam

In hyderabadi, may be it is same in mumbaiyya

Without these two, every food is made without these two, and it is so tasteless that it can be used as slow poison :D

Re: Allam Ghallam

:rotfl: so you sacrificed a lot for love.

Re: Allam Ghallam

No one generally voluntarily sacrifices in love, love, by its very nature, is selfish and believes in self fulfillment.
For onion and garlic thing, I cook my food using the two, after regular slow poison is made by supreme commander

Re: Allam Ghallam

she might be calling whatever you make as 'allam ghallam' :)

Re: Allam Ghallam

There are two type of food, the slow poison that pundas eat is called Satwik and those not eaten by them, made by onion and garlic is asatwik. In ancient time even a gaze of non-brahmin caste could pollute their food :D, by ancient time, I mean before Independence :)

Re: Allam Ghallam

 are you referring to maleechh.

KKF was telling that meat consumption is at its height nowadays in India.. Non-Muslims are enjoying Kababs, Qorma and Biryani.

Re: Allam Ghallam

Maleccha is different, Only Brahmins and Baniyas don’t eat meat, rest were always meat eaters, like Thakurs and Rajputs and other castes :), this also depends on the region they live. kasmiri pandit’s diet included fish and lamb. Bengali brahmins eat fish
