One thing that's always confused me is how so many Mujahideen groups that are condemned by the US as "terrorists" still manage to use US assault rifles - you need US government permission to buy them if you are importing them!!!
That Kashmiri Mujahid, for instance, has 2 M-16s besides him.
My Dear Mad Scientist. You may of course find it hypocritical but in reality that is not the case. It is allowed in Islam to kill your enemy even though the weapon is made or manufactured by that very same enemy. For one, Mujahideen of Rasool Allah PBUH's time used to collect the booty from the enemy and use those same weapons of booty in other wars to kill their opponents.
Besides, you should also know that these countries you mentioned used to 'sponsor' these so called terrorists before but now have turned up against them.

OmerKH i think mAd_ScIeNtIsT was just refering to the fact that the mujahideen have weapons that shouldnt be in their hands. One can understand Russian Ak47 since they are a legacy of the afghan war, but m16 assault rifles are US made strictly regulated rifles. They are the standard issue US assault rifles and the question is how did they get in the hands of the mujahideen ?
Ive seen some clips of palastinian fighters using the same weaponry.
Arms trade is the biggest trade in world.. arms are not only sold by governments but there are thousands of arms dealers who legally sell arms to any demand in the world.. so any group can buy conventional arms.. US arms were even sold to Iran in late 1970's at the height of US-Iran tension times...
You are right about the loots of war. However, I think what mad_scientist was referring to was the fact that these weapons are american made, and their trade is heavily regulated. So while on the one hand, US condemns these people as terrorists, on the other hand, it provides them with weapons, or at least authorizes their provision, or doesnt regulate them, making it hard to understand whose side the americans are really on.
Sure they can say that these weapons were stolen, smuggled, or sold by third parties. But in that case, US is supposed to apply sanctions against that third party for misuse of its weapons.
