All views needed..

..on what would ur reason be for leaving previous job in an interview? No typical answers like career growth or so. The new company belongs to the same group the old one did and the post is almost the same.

Re: All views needed..

Why leave then? Tell the truth?

Re: All views needed..

How about " I'd like to work at a place/ post up until I feel that it is mutually beneficial to me and the employer . "

Re: All views needed..

You felt under-utilised… :hehe:

Re: All views needed..

Want to diversify my experience, want to try new things , for change of scenery, looking for greeener pastures .

Re: All views needed..

Jalpari it depends on what terms you have with the new team
better alignment with career interests, excited about what is going on in the new area and want to be part of a dynamic team.

In the end, the interviewer knows you are leaving because either you are not satisfied with something in your current role, or your boss is not satisifed with you, you want them to think its the former, without slamming your team. I have made the transition a couple of times, most recent being just now, although the new role was higher up, but the discussion was more around the change in my role due to strategy shift after a reorg and how it was not in great alignment with what my goals are, the hiring manager and I know each other well, his peers, and my new peers interviewed me and I was upfront about it that while I was doing well in my role, it was not something for me for more than 6-12 months. Now once u say that the concern can be if you would leave this role if u are bored, not challenged or due to changes, and with that I was honest as well, noting that some shift is expected and even needed based on changes in business strategy, competitive environment, etc but yes if there was a major shift in what I am coming in to do and what is later needed, not only it may not be in line with my interests, maybe I would not be a right fit, but that would have to be a fairly major shift.

Stay honest but diplomatic and not gossipy and you should be fine

Re: All views needed..

tell the truth, no one else knows truth better than the person who is appearing for a job interview.

When applying for jobs in well organized companies, they always know that career growth is just one typical answer (though it is a valid reason at times) and somehow they eventually find out the true reason. Telling a lie rather reduces your chances of getting a good job.
