There is no doubt that literature has a very active hand in shaping generations; especially when it comes to the movement of gender in current society.
Who do you think were some heroines that changed the ‘face’ of women in history.
Jane Eyre?
Edna Pontellier (ducking tamatars)
Bella Swan (ducking bullets)
Modern Day literary heroine: Katniss Everdeen…I think she’s one of the best, well rounded literary heroines to have come about recently. She has shown that a young woman CAN challenge the status quo, and be strong yet vulnerable at the same time.
Classic literature: I know it will sound cliche, but I have to go with Scarlett O’hara. She was raised to be the face of the genteel, “kept” women, but in reality, she’s a independent fire ball who could get the job done better by herself than 10 men could put together
She needed no one, but at the end day, just wanted to be loved. I think she really showed women that sometimes we really are our own worst enemies
Asghari is the ultimate portrayal of Naik Parveen, SughaR lady who didn’t waste time in playing with dolls like her elder sister Akbari. She managed her sasural well and was able to built a big haveli in Khanum ka bazar.
Recently read that such characters were there in European literature of 19th / early 20th century especially novelists like Daniel Defo (who is otherwise famous for Robinson Crusoe, but google tells that he also wrote novels like Roxana, the fortunate mistress)
I’m nothing if I’m not true to my nature. I had to throw Bella in there; however I am not the least bit in her favor. I thought she was a terrible role model.
I wouldn't call Jane Eyre a good girl. She's a rebellious smart-mouth outcast from the beginning, and gets beaten until she's bloody in the first chapter for it.
So being a rebel disqualifies you from being a heroine?
I thought she was pretty good at breaking the mold and making things work for herself.
I did find her overly nosy at times and cutting a bit to much red tape for her own benefits.

No, I was disagreeing with the comment that we're picking good girls.
