You are the man :k:

Some of you should apply for the CEO post at Jokers.com!

How can the likes of Anwar and Abbas be in the top 10 since 1980-let alone of all time! ?

Let us see:

Of all time-judging by footage, opinion and all other materials I have read/viewed on the matter. I will go for the post 1980 list. At any period within that time is a sufficient.

IVA Richrads. "Like bowling to God" (Botham)
Gavaskar (1 thing matters here-record V WI!)
Lara. Biggest match winner since Bradman
Sachin Tendulkar-the master. Will likely climb later on.
Miandad-great fighter, match winner. Top under pressure
Steve Waugh-marvellous player. Winner, fighter, warrior.
Greenidge. Seen only tapes ect-but man awesome. Sq cut esp.
"Treated me like a spinner" (Imran Khan)
Haynes. Lion of Barbados, saw him play some criminal knocks.
Mark Waugh-in full flow bar Lara the most marvellous player to watch.
Inzamam-just gets the job done.

Will list bowlers post 1980 after dinner.

Batsmen
1- Bradman
2- Viv Richards
3- Javed Miandad
4- Brian Lara
5- Sachin Tendulkar
6- Inzamam Ul Haq
7- D.Haynes
8- Dean Jones
9- Mark Waugh
10- Sunil Gavaskar

Bowlers
1- Wasim Akram
2- Imran Khan
3- Richard Headly
4- Murli
5- Waqar Younus
6- M.Marshal
7- McGrath
8- Donald
9- Shane Warn
10- Saqlain Mushtaq

from those I have seen play on TV etc (i.e. 1980s onwards)

bastmen:

** 1. Viv Richards** ---simply the best. All others can fight over second place....

these will include:

Lara
Tendulkar
Miandad
Anwar
Waugh (S)
Border
Haynes
Greenidge
Richardson
Gavaskar (in no order)

bowlers:

  1. Marshall
  2. Waqar 3.Wasim
  3. Lillee
  4. Ambrose 6.Walsh 7.Imran
  5. Warne
  6. Murali
  7. Holding
  8. Donald
  9. Garner 13.Roberts etc!

(btw these numbers are not meant to be in order or greatness...except I would put Marshall, Waqar above anyone else...and their strike rates are well above anyone else who has taken over a 100 wickets in the history of the game)

Wasim is the greatest left armer in the history of the game and i think the most talented bowler ever...

Waqar the most devastating fast bowler (at his peak)

Marshall the most complete...

Ambrose --the most difficult to score off..

Walsh--the most tireless and agressive..

Warne--the greatest spinner of all time

Imran--the greatest action ever!

:)

Shoaib will be in this list in the future no doubt...as will Saqlain...

Ah back after dinner-and now for the bowlers. Again based on books, footage, and all sorts of sources of information.
Clearly I've seen lots of the guys who played in the 1990's-so my opinion of these players is more accurate.

Post 1980's (No order)

Wasim Akram-ah he is no.1, no order after this, he is the most complete bowler in the games history. Not to mention his record is a tad impressive-my knowledge of Marshall is limited to what I've read ect, but S/R aside, Wasim for my money would get picked over Marshall and Waqar. The left arm angle, the old ball skill, the swing, movement and variation make is VERY hard to look past him as the best of the last few decades, quite likely of alltime.

I cant imagine another bowler could test a batsmen in so many different ways at any point in the game.

Marshall-seen a bit of footage (during rain intervals on Tv ect) and all accounts but him alongside Lillee as the greatest of alltime, I like many others, but Akram in that bracket. Judging Lille from 1980's onwards is a bit unfair-he played his best years in the 1970's, inc. his 1975/6 attack w/ Thomo on the WI. (They later returned the favour-Benaud's book describes the series well(from a viwers POV), as does Viv's).

Lillee-just based on rep. Seen VERY limited footage of him, only what they show on the Ashes flaskbacks. All accounts put him up there.

Imran Khan-hey I'm a Pakistani. Great action, and highly regaded. Saw the very end of his game live-and have seen videos of the 1982 test series in England-great bowler.

Waqar-awesome bowler. A bit of a pace merchant, his record post 1996/7 is very average. His peak will not be matched again in terms of success. A great old ball bowler, limited new ball ability for alongtime. Moves the ball away conventionally far better then he brings it back-seems to be getting a bit back -will always be the guy who ruined teams in my eyes. :)

Ambrose-simply unstoppable at his best. Warne talks of an extra "6th gear like a Fararri"-can see wy. Accurate, fast, menacing, and deadly all at the same time. Will never forget how he blew England away for 46 in 1994/5.

Donald-may surprise you-although it shouldnt. 300+ wickets at a S/R of 47~, he alone made SA the 2nd best side in the world for most of the 1990's. Fast, furious, awesome. Few better bowlers then him in his era-won matches single handedly. White Lightning is amongst the very best. Colin Croft once spoke of him as being in the top 5 of alltime.

Walsh-never gave in. A match winner and a warrior. In 1995 he had only 200 wickets, over the next 7 he took over 300-had all the skills in the book. Wonderful paceman. A machine.

Warne-the most impressive spinner of alltime. Made spin fashionable, has ruined all teams-bar India-and is such a joy to watch. His Gatting ball is one we all know, and his record is faboulous. Better then Murali-if only cos he has to compete with the lieks of McGrath and Lee, and earlier McDermott and Hughes-quality bowlers. Yet he still shone.

Murali-dont need to comment. Look at the stats.

i have left out guys like Holding cos i havent seen more then 10 balls (perhaps a few more) of these guys. Marshall and Lillee commanded there places, and I have seen a decent bit of both. Obviously Hadlee would rank in-highly, perhaps Garner and co too. But I choose to comment on those I know about with certainty.

Best Batsman
Sachin Tendulkar

Best Bowler
Wasim Akram

Best Allrounder
Kapil Dev

Dude you got a be kidding me.

One of the greatest bowler in the history of cricket and you are just saying "great bowler" as compare to other bowlers you've like praised them in your words. Imran might not be your favourite, or maybe you did not like his personality (I would doubt it the guy had and still has great personality) or maybe you don't like em due to some personal reason or what ever but I don't think you gave the guy enough credit from the cricket point of view. We are talking here the game not the personality so for what ever reason you did not like Imran you should have consider what he has done for PAK and MOST OF ALL it was Imran who discovered WASEEM, WAQAR, AQIB, INZI. Even if you don't consider his ability to pick a good talent out of thousands of youngsters look at his contribution to the PAK team, look at his record and I am sure if he did not had to sit out for a year due to his leg fracture he would have broken Sir Richard record and he was at his peak at that time.

I am sure if Imran had not been there then we might have never seen WASEEM, WAQAR, AQIB, INZI. I could be wrong here someone else might have picked them but they would have never achieved what they have now cuz as far as I know WASEEM used to kiss lots of Imran a$$ to learn all the tricks and tactics.

At the end all I wanted to say is Waseem might be a better bowler then Imran but he would have never achieved it without Imran and rest who cares about the personality or what ever. I think Imran was one of the most effective, talented, impressive and aggressive bowler :).

No doubt there are so many brilliant bowlers in the history of cricket. But the thing I did not like about your comments was that you did not give the guy any credit. The way you commented about Imran it seems you simply said yeah there was a bowler name Imran who once existed. Everyone has the right to speek their mind you spoke yours and heres' mine :)

Dude,

Imran Khan is my God. I just couldnt think of what to say-there is no words that do him justice. He was the greatest allrounder of alltime-yes inc Sobers, whos bowling stats are very average!-and a brilliant skipper. I spoke more on the others cpos the majority of the list is guys from the 1990's ect-whom I've seen lots off.

Imran is THE greatest Pakstani ever, and ranked the 10th greatest cricketer of alltime. He had mastery of all variations and methods of swing/seam-I just couldnt be bothered to write all that man. His personality-from what I can judge it by-seems great. He has the right to be a bit arrogant-he is the great Khan.

If you took offence to my lack of words on Imran-I apologise-know that I worship this guy as much as you.

mo_best <---- THE BEST :k:

I thought you didn’t give em any credit but now I know so meri apology to you  no offence was taken just wanted to mention my opinion

I know I am brilliant. Seriously dude, I was raised in a typical Pakistani home yaar-not loving Imran Khan to the extent of idolizing him was akin to leaving Islam.......ok perhaps not quite.......but you get the point. :D

Please restrict yourself to giving your choices and not criticising other peoples choices.

Eshan, man this is a discussion forum is it not?

Let him defend his choice-if we cant criticise or question choices then there is little to discuss. I appreciate the need for respect towads each other-you could have edited the few words against Kapil in my last post rather then KO the whole thing.

Peace.

Yes this is a discussion forum but the thread asks for your choices, and everyone has different choices. If you wish to discuss the merits or otherwise of different all rounders than you can start another thread. :)

Ok then.
