Ok before I offend a large swath of C&A readers let me clarify. This pertains to all those Med School related threads whether they involve schools in Pakistan, Carribean or whatever. Many of them are posted by North American based Guppies. Not that theres anything wrong with being with an FMG, heck my parents are one of those. I did premed in school but didnt find med to be a higher calling..went with a more lucrative profession
Now the main point here: Why are all of you trying to run away to a foriegn country to complete med studies? Is it because you can’t hack it here? If so, then your not going to have any easier time coming back passing the boards etc. I know plenty of “Drs.” from Dominican Republic and the carribean doing semiskilled work. If you think doing premed is more difficult in the US/Canada, then I’d suggest that you give it a try and NOT listen to your friends/familymembers.
I don’t mean to offend but the truth is that most desis search for shortcuts and end up screwing themselves. Most of the FMGs are intelligent hard working people who were able to clear the boards not once but on consistent basis.
To those who have taken the MCATs, I feel your pain But don’t just give up. It’s all about edurance :k:
well thanx for ur advice, and dont worry no offense taken here. and yeah its not about taking shortcuts, its about the crazy sum of money they take, that hardly ne one can give without interest. so if there is another way out, than i say trust Allah and go for the halaal way out. not do haram and then say i'll trust Allah in making me pay back my interest fast. it just doesn't make ne sense to me atleast. and med school is probably easier here than pak, pak even has school on saturdays. but whatever, ur right, if someone does have the money than yeah they should stay here for the education, and later if they wanna help their country then fine, and if not thats their business.
Hmm; I have two friends, who studied in Pakistan, one an "ABCD" and the other a British "Asian" of Pakistani origin, both decided on Pakistan because of two reasons: The Cost factor and the time factor, both finished their MBBS about two years ago and in the ABCD's case he scored a 94 in his USMLE while in the British Asian's case she passed her PLAB on her first attempt and is presently working as an SHO here in Britain. So, going to Pakistan is an experience, and not always a nice one. But if you are not upto Medical studies, when the time comes for residency or post graduate training, you will pay the price in whichever country you go too.
u know what? so far i have heard only good and successful stories about people who went to pak to study med and came back. its very encouraging. ne how im not too worried about coming back ne ways.
Hello,
I guess Zak is right , because Med education in Pakistan is really of high standard. A lot my my friends after passing MBBS are working in USA and they got really gr8 scores in MLE, the average being above 90.
So if some one can manage to have some place to live in Pakistan ( because hostel life is bakwaas there) then it is really a nice idea to do ur med grad from Pak.

RajputFury - i don't fully agree with you on this matter. for example, i dont think every1 that goes to foreign med schools wouldnt be able to handle it here in the US. i agree we need to try our chances here and there are a lot more options available here than most ppl are aware of.
but a lot of my classmates in my foreign med school were very bright and did gr8 in school. its just that a lot of us wanted to save time and money.
my best friend from high school and i both graduated from high school together, i went to a foreign med school and am almost done with my residency with excellent chances of getting a gr8 fellowship...while she is now in 3rd year DO school.
and her loans are far worse than mine and i'm content with where i am in my career, as opposed to her where she is still struggling through med school and then will have to worrry about residency. while i'll be finishing my fellowship.
retrospectively - i wish i had stayed and tried my chances here, but unfortunately i was not aware of other options i had. the only thing i knew was getting in to med school right after high school. i didn't know about doing a masters, or DO school etc, and even the thought of going to college and then trying again was not an option for me.
currently, i'm the youngest person in my class and considered one of the brighter ones (even if i have to say so myself...and the only reason i am saying it is bcuz i've been told this over and over again).
