this forum has given me a wealth of information on weddings in the GTA - thanks to all of you for your help!!
just thought it might be a good idea to consolidate some of that info, as well as include additional tips so that this post can serve as one stop shopping for brides to be
We’ve talked makeup, locations and djs so far. has anyone had good experience with photographers here? i simply love the wedding photography done back home - and have never really seen anything done as well over here. what about videographers?
for those who recently had/planned weddings, lets hear the details:
reception venue
makeup
hair
photographer
videographer
dj
decorations (if you have somebody doing it)
any information you guys could give to make wedding planning simpler would be awesome!! hugs to all
I’ve heard great things about Radisson Photography, especially for segregated weddings and female only mendhi parties. They are a family of photographers, husband, wife and son and they’ve been doing this for about 20 years or so. We booked them for my sister’s wedding.
We used Vijdan for both my sister’s wedding and mine and my bro’s. He was so so. His pics were amazing, but his personality sometimes got in the way. For example, at my sister’s wedding, a few of our lady guests were niqabis and to make it easier for them to eat, we had curtained off a few tables. Vijdan, being the idiot that he is, went AROUND the barrier and started taking their pictures. Let’s just say he got an earful from us.
At my bro’s walima and my wedding reception (it was together), we used Vijdan again. But before signing a contract, we had a very serious discussion with him on what was acceptable and what was not. I strictly forbid him from going into the women’s section and take pictures unless otherwise told to do so. I also told him I didn’t want any gay dulhan poses..and I also made sure that he did not go touching any females. Haha..my hubby made sure that he didn’t go and touch me while taking pics…
With all of the warnings, Vijdan still managed to mess up a bit this time around. He wanted to take pics of me, my bro, hubs and my sister-in-law at the hotel where we got ready. Vijdan was so busy planning the perfect pose, that he forgot to check his camera for film until **AFTER **the photoshoot was finished.
So a word of caution with Vijdan. Make sure you go over EVERYTHING that you want BEFORE you sign the contract. In fact, get everything WRITTEN in the contract. Also, on the day of your event, make sure you tell him what you want done and what you don’t want done.

Thanks for all the great info guys - Hinna I had seen some of vijdans work on shirley wus website and thought the pictures were great, but thats too bad that he's not easy to deal with. Could you give me his contact info just so that I can call him to get some ideas on pricing? Thanks!!
I went to the Suhaag wedding show today in Mississauga, and managed to get information from a ton of vendors here in the GTA. Will let you guys know how it all goes :)
Question about payment of makeup on Valima- who is responsible the grooms family? Just want to make sure, i know there are no rules but since the valima is a groom side event i was wondering if the grooms family pays for the valima makeup of the bride.
Where can I get that white flower thing that is worn in the dhulan's hair on the mendhi and wedding day? I looked at Albion and I can't find it. I know you can get fake ones that look real, so I would prefer that.
^ we used real flowers for my bhabhi..i will try to get the number from my brother for u....her name is Laila..shes in mississauga..she also does stage decorations.i think someone else wanted to know about that....
Mehnaz- could you please guide me on the price range for ceremonial haars just as a ball park. First of all we have really limited resources in the boston area and the 2-3 local indian wedding decorators we have checked with are charging $150 US for a pair of haars for the bride and groom. Non-desi florists are charging like $300 per garland. If we buy the flowers our self we may be able to do it in $60 per haar but none of us really know how to do the nice fancy kind and daisy chains may not make it for a wedding.
Sooraj, I have no clue myself. I’ve been told that in Scarborough, they charge $30 for it whereas in Brampton/Mississauga, they charge $150 per haar. I think that’s a bit steep. I might as well make them myself.
I don’t know how to make them either. I’m gonna go to the gora floral shops and ask them since these were desi prices.
They make nice garlands for anybody in the GTA area ranging from $35 to $65 each. $35 are carnation and mums and $65 are roses and mums. They look quite nice. You get free petals with it, but if you want more petals, they cost $19 for a big box.
They deliver in the US too sooraj, so you could consider using them.
