Amid reports of the Indian cricketers earning plenty of money after their splendid performance in the World Cup comes the shocking revelation that they haven’t been paid their wages for the past 10 months.

**According to a front-paged report in the Indian Express newspaper, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) owes the players about Rs 10 million each (US$ 208,333). The team hasn’t been paid for their series in England in June 2002 and all their assignments thereafter. Kishore Rungta, treasurer of the BCCI, told the newspaper: “The delay in payment to the players is actually an accounting delay. It is not a matter of public debate.” **

According to the board, it still hasn’t received the logo money from Sahara for those series. “Some dues have to be paid by the Sahara Group which is why payments to players are stuck,” clarified Rungta. ‘‘The tour fee for players is around Rs 3 lakh to 4 lakh ($ 6250 to $ 8333) per player per tour, the real money comes from the logo fees that BCCI receives. We give 60 per cent of it to the players while retaining 40 per cent. This could work out to Rs 15 lakh to 20 lakh per player for each tour.’’

Rungta also stated that Trans World International (TWI), which was the agent handling corporate sponsors for the team, had pulled out after the England tour, and the team had no sponsor for the ICC Champions Trophy.

While admitting that the board hadn’t yet decided whether to pay the players in advance or wait for the dispute to be settled, Rungta offered the assurance that Jagmohan Dalmiya, president of the Indian board, was personally looking into the matter. ‘‘Dalmiya is personally handling this problem now. When the year-end pre-occupation in his own businesses is over on March 31, we hope to resolve the problems … by the second week of April.”

Ravi Krishnan, joint director of TWI, and Rajiv Shukla, media manager for the Indian team, refused to comment on the issue.

This is what happens when an organization is run by amatures and honorary members and not by paid professionals. These BCCI Board officials have no accountability. They are milking BCCI like anything, touring abroad at every given opportunity, stayinh in 5 star Hotels, giving game tickets to their whole Khandan and none of their vouchers are pending approval .

But when it comes to Paying Cricket Players, Who have been playing their hearts out, stay away from their families for months, have to fight with BCCI and ICC for their right, These BCCI Officials are making excuses and blaming the sponsors. The fact is that they have screwed this whole sponsoring & Contract issue and created a big mess. I dont know when this whole thing is going to change. Why cant we have professionals running these Boards.

ehsan Bhai that news is old and the latest news is that BCCI is going to Pay the cricketers.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided to clear its 10-month dues with the Indian players. Two days after a report in the Indian Express newspaper which stated that the cricketers hadn’t been paid for all nine Tests and 37 one-day internationals since June 2002, the board announced that the entire sum – amounting to Rs 160 million (US$ 3.3 million) – would be paid up immediately.
The board had earlier stated that the delay in payments was because the team sponsors – Trans World International and Sahara India – hadn’t paid the BCCI. It claimed that the match fees were held up as their amounts were mere trifles compared to the logo money the players receive from the sponsors. Rahul Dravid and Virender Sehwag will be the greatest beneficiaries, having played in all the 46 matches in question.

Insisting that the matter was a non-issue and not a matter for public debate, Kishore Rungta, honorary treasurer of the BCCI, confirmed to Wisden.com that “the dues will all be settled for all matches including the New Zealand series. Normally, the logo money is paid out only after receipt of the money from the sponsors.”

Mr Rungta clarified that the dues were the logo money, distinct from the match fees, which he said, “is paid out after receipt of the report from the manager. Normally we pay both together in one cheque as the logo money is much larger. It was never an issue with the players and if they mentioned it, we would have sat and discussed it. In this case, the logo money is yet to come but we are making the payment from the BCCI coffers. We got into a rigmarole with this delay because of some new contracts.”

I don't think its a huge problem for the Indian players. They already get huge sums of money from doing advertisements and appearances.

The money they get from endorsments is a different issue. It doesn't and Should not mean that their Pay can be witheld for one year. And it is not just the players, It's the Coach, Physio everyone. do they get endorsments too ?
