NEW DELHI: Admitting their poor performance in the FIH World Cup, all players of the national hockey team have announced their retirement from the game here on Thursday.
Captain Zeeshan Ashraf, while talking with Geo News, said that he and his boys apologise with the nation on the team’s dismal performance in the World Cup.
He said that never in the history of Pakistan, such disappointing performance was displayed and the whole team is sad on today’s defeat. This is why all the players have decided in a meeting to quit hockey.
Zeeshan said that the players did not make this decision under any pressure but they did it only due to their poor performance.
I’m shocked. I don’t agree with their decision but hopefully PHF will learn from this and prepare is a better team that’s worth calling a national team.
I guess…the whole Pakistan team for the worldcup 2010 took the decision to retire in an honorable fashion…I am glad…
PS: There are ups and downs in life…so in the hockey of Pakistan…our beloved sport…we have rocked the bottom…the 4 times world champions…I am and was happy of that…
PS1: From here…we start striking back to more top positions on the international scenes…may be becoming 4 times champions in a row…InshAllah…
