All ministers and high ranking officials should visit Flooded Areas

Gotta give it upto Shahbaz Sharif, so far hes the only leader whose going to flood affected areas on a daily basis and doing something about it rather than sitting in London sipping tea and doing a mujra for David Cameron.

Now alot of you would think his going to flood affected areas amongst the affected people does no good. I think its beneficial, because in Pakistan when a high ranking official visits a place everything falls to place and all the people below them make sure things are done right before their visit. Now something different happened when our not so bright prime minister gilani went to this so called hospital to visit flood affectees and later discovered they were all ‘rented’ mareez and the hospital and its staff (along with the furniture) disapeared after he left. Oh well, the way I looked at it atleast those actors looked rather desperate and weak to be playing ‘mareez’ and the Rs. 5000 check handed to them didnt goto waste. Also, the PM didnt know they were supposedly ‘qaraye key mareez’, whereas this one time (a year or two ago) the MQM rabita committee was handing out wheelchairs to people who would sit down and pose on them for a picture and then walk away with them lol!

I remember I was told how hospital staff in Punjab, particularly in Lahore was up on its toes because they feared shahbaz sharif was going around in a frenzy paying surprise visits to these hospitals and firing people based on negligence on the spot. Now this may be cruel and somewhat unjustified but I think this is the only way to get people to work properly. He even made the incharges of hospitals drink water out of the dirty coolers kept for the patients.

This is why I think every other minister should start paying a visit to the flood affected areas. It does do wonders, especially in Pakistan, trust me.

Re: All ministers and high ranking officials should visit Flooded Areas

There scores of politicians who are at flood sites for several days - PPP Raja Riaz is one of the.. though he dont have the luxury and financial resources to have whole Geo TV crew to follow him as Shahbaz Sharif has.. Hamid Mir miraculously appear whenever Shahbaz sharif is embracing an old women and giving her some money.. all pomp and show...

Re: All ministers and high ranking officials should visit Flooded Areas

^ Degas, if they are going, raja riaz etc, its a good thing, I am with them. If they just go there and take notice, things will be done, thats how it is in Pakistan. I am also happy gilani went too, though he was scammed into going into some fake hospital.

Hamid Mir, please provide media coverage to any PPP officials who take time out to go the flood affected areas.

Re: All ministers and high ranking officials should visit Flooded Areas

Very good point Spock.
Just the fact that they high profile people visit makes things happen.....even if it is in the smallest way.

Re: All ministers and high ranking officials should visit Flooded Areas

Not a fan of his political stance, but I am a personal witness to Shabaz Sharif's efficient and effective oversight of projects (development, social and educational) and relief missions. Do give credit where it is due.

Visits from our 'representatives' are vital and their coverage is also important to highlight the issues facing people in different areas of the country.

Why is it that, even though being a natural disaster and not directly his responsibility, Obama was high criticized for mishandling Katrina? (the hurricane, not actress); These are the times when 'leaders' have to show dedication to people they represent.

Re: All ministers and high ranking officials should visit Flooded Areas

In the whole political elite, it is Shahbaz Sharif who has been active in the flood-effected areas of Southern Punjab...

AS for Hamid Mir, He was in Noshehra and almost all the people he met said none of the provincial govt people have showed up...

Spock does have good point... Qayam Ali Shah is visiting some points in Sindh and taking care of things.. which is indeed a good thing to do...
