I love fish and have been eating more of it lately. but sometimes I get bored with the same old thing each time. Usually it’s tilapia or catfish, marinated in desi fish masala and “fried” with a tsp of olive oil.
Last night I marinated Alaskan cod fillets…erm…that didn’t go well.
Anyway, yall share your recipes and ideas for fish!
*I cook fish and spinach (salmon)…desi style.Goes well with both roti and plain rice.
*The other is marinate with salt/pepper/lemon juice and coat with seasoned bread crumbs and shallow fry it.Usually use salmon or tilapia.
*Very rarely if I really am craving desi style fried fish,I go with any white fish and marinate with desi spices and coat with a paste of besan and fry it.But it is not a very usual thing we prefer to eat.
i dont like heavily flavored fish and avoid frying, so I keep it simple.
-heavy duty foil … layer of your fav vegis (like the stir fry mix), lay fish on top … season with salt pepper or lemon pepper, your fav herb (oregano, dill, cumin etc…) … fold foil over to make a pocket … bake n eat.
-thai red/green curry paste, coconut milk, vegis u like, fish in frying pan large enough t hold it all. saute n simmer. eat as is or over bit of brown rice
-pack of fajita seasonings rubbed over fish filets and baked, serve with home made black beans, salad/fresh sweet spicy salsa
fish dusted very lightly with flour (seasoned) and pan “fried” … using v v little oil. sauce of lemon+peppercorn or capers. serve with side of scalloped potatoes or whatever vegis/salad
simmer in pasta sauce, eat with whole wheat pasta or with salad
I love fish doesn’t matter what way it is cooked. My mum cooks Salmon in desi style ,it turns out so tasty.
-Salmon fried in olive oil.
-Fried Sea bass with lemon wedges.
-Baked Salmon in aluminum foil. I love this since it is healthy without oil.
Tear off a piece of aluminium foil a little larger than twice the size of the piece of salmon. Place the salmon in the middle of the piece of foil.Add any seasonings, butter or other ingredients you wish to bake the salmon with.Personally, i don’t add butter or oil . Place the foil-wrapped salmon on a baking sheet and place the sheet in the preheated oven. Bake for 10 to 15 minutes.
There are a few benefits to baking salmon in aluminium foil. One is easier clean-up. When the cooking is done, all you have to do is wad up the foil and throw it away. Another benefit to baking salmon in foil is that it keeps the fish from drying out and you can also bake flavors into the salmon by adding additional ingredients to the foil before sealing it up, like onions, garlic or lemon slices.
I make salmon how ehl-e-chamman has explained except I don’t foil it - but this does sound like a quicker method! I have been meaning to make a salmon tart with puff pastry, sorry don’t have the exact measurements, I will write it out for you once I can, but I only eat salmon if it’s baked or grilled, try tilapia/cod/haddock to make chinese fish manchurian? It turns out really good and so much faster to make
Take small bite pieces of fish - marinate with 1 egg white, 1 teaspoon corn flour, salt and pepper
Shallow fry it in sesame oil/chopped garlic ginger/green onion and then add you vegetables (you can use anything you have on hand mushrooms/red or green peppers/watercress)
Finish it off with a couple of tbs or more if you like of teriyaki sauce, once coated with the sauce sprinkle sesame seeds/red chilli flakes and you have the perfect dinner along with the side of rice or noodles
My only concern with making fish desi or chinese style is that it will crumble too easily? tilapia and catfish are kind of delicate in my experience. Will try that though!
Last summer, I tried this baked salmon with veggie recipe, it came out great, but then I used khattichic’s recipe to make salmon tikkis…OMG I think I made them at least every week over the summer…SO GOOD.
whole red snapper fried/baked with just salt and pepper and served with boiled rice and escovitch sauce (pickled carrots and onions) takes 20 minutes to make and is sooooo yummy!
salmon fillets rubbed with mustard (i use dijonnaise.. mayo and dijon together) and plain breadcrumbs seasoned with salt and pepper and parsley flakes or fresh chopped parsley garnished on top. broil for 13 mins… sooo soo good!
lemon butter tilapia, sometimes with the addition of parsley or dill.. again baked
fish and chips for those days when you just want fried and bad for you food!
I highly recommend Martha Stewarts recipes, I have tried many many things from her site and I have to say every single thing has turned out either very good or a huge hit!
Pan seared fish is also great for fish tacos and burritos.
For the fish tacos you can make a simple sauce using lime juice and some mayo thinned out w/ milk. Also cut up some cabbage and make pico de gallo. Assemble your tacos, squeeze some more lime juice on top and you have some yummy tacos!
