ikea’s gulliver is one of the most popular cribs around. its highly rated for safety, has clean lines, works in many different styles of rooms, and its only $139! i chose it for all of the above reasons

babyletto also makes very cute cribs that are under $500. Babyletto | Modern Cribs, Nursery Gliders, Baby Furniture Collections

the baby mod line by walmart is super cute too and affordable and runs in the $200-$300 range as well. baby mod - Walmart.com
this was my first choice based on the looks but they don’t carry this line in canada. boo! maybe for #2 i’ll make the trip to the US and grab it from there.

otherwise, i LOVE the oeuf line of cribs, and the more modern acrylic ones but those are all $800-$2000.

Re: All about cots/cribs?

I thought about buying the ikea crib but when my son was born in 2011, Ikea US wasn’t carrying any cribs due to safety recalls so they brought them back a few months later (in December) after meeting the safety requirements (I have no idea what it was but all of a sudden, they all disappeared).. so I never got a chance to look at them or test them in toddlers room.

We ended up purchasing a crib during babies r us gigantic sale (they run them couple of times a year) and bought this one for $110 Rivington 4-in-1 Crib with Toddler Rails - Cherry - DaVinci - Babies “R” Us (they sent mattress as a courtesy too since I had to make a few phones calls to get the crib)

I have to admit the color wasn’t my favorite when we received it but it grew on me later.. we changed it into toddler bed for couple of weeks but my son didn’t like it so we switched him to twin bed and decided to keep the crib for second baby.. it’s in perfect shape except some teeth mark here and there that is of no issue! so yep 2+ years and still going strong, will definitely last us through couple of babies

if you keep checking babies r us, you will find good deals, just a few weeks ago they were selling $500 cribs for $100 but of course they probably only had 10 of them on sale so people who got to see it first were able to buy it (I found out through baby forums)

Rest, sgc gave you good advice and options.

Re: All about cots/cribs?

^ FYI The Ikea crib that was recalled was the Sniglar crib that retails for $99.

The Gulliver has never been recalled.

Re: All about cots/cribs?

I went to Ikea in June/July 2011 and couldn’t find a single crib on display.. when I inquired them I was told that Ikea had removed them all due to safety reasons so no cribs were being sold during that time frame and then they brought all of them back in Nov/December.. it may not have been “recalled” per se but Ikea stopped selling cribs for a while. It was my personal experience.. I never followed up on that s I don’t know what were the reasons or what happened..It may very well be just a judgment call at their end.. I remember wlamart removed all types of Enfamil formulas in December 2011 when that one child died due to other reasons but were thought to be due to Enfamil…so corporations do that for no reasons too.

My point was I never got to test ikea cribs as much as I wanted to or I would have shared my opinion with the OP.

Re: All about cots/cribs?

we have the DaaaVinci Kalani…and the reason we got was due to good price, good reviews, and the matching matching changing table was what i wanted.

Amazon.com: DaVinci Kalani 3 Drawer Changer in Cherry: Baby

So far no issues, but recently my toddler has started to jump a lot and the springs have started to make a lot of noise. Hubby has to tigthen the springs few time in the past months. Not sure if thats a problem with all of them or just our has a bad one.

We had a mini crib/changer combo at first (from babies r us) but mashAllah my son outgrew it when he was like 3-4 months. It cost us $400, including the mattress.

This summer we got the Baby Cache Montana crib…i like it a lot. It’s very sturdy and feels really solid. This one cost us closer to $1000, including the mattress.

Re: All about cots/cribs?

We had the BabyMod Cadence and bought it from Walmart. It was I think around $230 and that included the mattress (some deal going on at that time).

Been using it for almost 4 years.,first as a crib and now as a toddler bed.It has been going great. It is sturdy and well made and we also just have teeth marks on it,otherwise it has never had any issues.

Re: All about cots/cribs?

We got the crib and the mattress from target, crib was available only online but had great reviews. We have been using it for 17 months now. When we were moving last May, the movers decided to unessamble the crib which was not a good move at their part. When the driver was putting the crib together, they couldn’t quite tighten up the screws of the front panel, not sure what they did. We just ended up tightening it with a strip of fabric on both ends.

We got the munchkin mattress which was around 100$.

Re: All about cots/cribs?

walmart’s look nice too.
i like ikea’s sundvick i think, loving the style of it but this im talking about online, haven’t seen instore.

wow, babies r us at that price is amazing, i’ve been looking and everything seems to be very pricey at babies r us. So, i decided to go for ikea. but then again i’ll keep looking as you said, might find something good at babies r us.

This crib at walmart looks so nice, i guess for now im love with it. And it has good reviews too.

Thanks i’ll take a look at target too.

Re: All about cots/cribs?

what about bedding? where did you guys go for bedding…

Re: All about cots/cribs?

My first borns bedding was from pottery barn. My 2nd borns was from target  Since I didn’t use the bumpers or blanket that it came with, I thought it was just a waste of money to buy fancy, expensive bedding. Target wala bedding was on clearance for $16 and it’s super cute! (we only use the bed sheet)

Re: All about cots/cribs?

Initially when she was a baby,I bought fitted sheets only…I found some nice ones at Target.com,Walmart.com and at babies r us (in store).I started using a mesh bumper instead of a quilted one around the time she was a few mths old.

Later when she was a year old,I bought a complete crib set, from Marshalls (sheets, skirt, quilted bumper and quilt…tho the quilt never got used).
Now I am using her crib as a toddler bed and the same mattress.I still use a few of the older sheets (the ones which do not have too much of a nursery print going on) and got some new plain ones and chevron print ones from Target (to match her blankets she uses now).

I found out the Target ones to be really nice…both quality wise and price wise. There was a Fisher price set I had bought from Walmart and they were really good,I used them a lot.

Re: All about cots/cribs?

fisherprice looks cute, with all the animals. And prices are good too.

Re: All about cots/cribs?

$16 for bedding set?? thats a deal…
everything i’ve seen so far is $45/$50 the sets with blanket, sheets and a few more pieces.

All about cots/cribs?

I do not have a baby yet but whenever shopping for friends I notice the cribs that they can can go from being a crib and then can be changed into other things once the crib is no longer needed like a day bed, and a twin bed. Has anyone bought those? Someone told me you have to buy other parts to use it as a twin bed so I have never seen anyone practically say they used it. I’ve seen these at target and walmart. Any experience?

Re: All about cots/cribs?

its a bed. As long as its safe, that’s all that matters.

To be quite honest, get a cheap one… and dont go all out on the bed sheets and stuff (unless they’re a gift  ), cus you dont even know if the bub is going to sleep in there or not. They seriously have a mind of their own.

When I bought munckins (and now bubba is using the same crib), we just got the cheapest one from the local baby shop. As long as it was safe… that’s what matters.

We got a decent mattress though.. a fitted sheet… a head bumper and a blanket (got enough blankets from family members that bubba is now using munchkins). And we used the extra heavy blankets that come in those crib bundles as the side bumpers. Didnt think I needed to go out and pay extra $80+ dollars for a bumper.

7 years later, the crib is going strong :k:

Re: All about cots/cribs?

I think most of the cribs are convertible ones. They can be converted into a toddler bed and then a full bed or daybed.A toddler bed (or day bed) can be used with the same mattress as that of the crib whereas the full bed needs a new full sized mattress. Also the cribs come with (most of them) with conversion kits to convert them into toddler beds. You just remove the front panel of it and replace it with a small, lower rail like thing for the toddler. You remove that too and it can become a day bed,if that is an option.
To change it to a full bed,the front and back of the crib becomes the foot end and head end/head board respectively, you remove the sides …but you need to buy the side rails for the bed at that time.
Mine was a convertible crib and we removed the front of it to make it a toddler bed and I think it should last us a few more years (my kid is 3.5 at the moment).I dont think I will be buying kits to convert it to a full bed after a few years, because i want to get her a bedroom set in a few years,iA.

Re: All about cots/cribs?

7 years is a good time… so yep, main concern is crib should be safe for the baby. Rest doesnt really matter where i buy from.
Thanks everyone!
I know everyone says, dont spend too much on the bedding and stuff. but its all just shooooooooooooooooo cute, how can we ignore the matching bed set, mobile and decor

Re: All about cots/cribs?

I second what everyone else has said about Target- really good quality! I ordered a DwellStudio for Target set because it had spaceships on it and it was adorable haha. It was also a very good price. Its been through countless washings and hasn’t lost any of its colour or texture. Other than that, I bought some fitted crib sheets from Pottery Barn and Babies’r’Us.

We’ve used all of it, including the quilt, as he’s gotten older. I still have the bumper wrapped around his daybed so he doesn’t slam into the bars at night or get his hands/feet caught in it.

The crib conversion to toddler bed didn’t work for us- it was so tiny and my kid is mA bigger for his age- he just wasn’t comfortable in it so we went straight to the daybed. Having said that, I don’t mind- I’m sure we will use the crib again whenever baby #2 makes an appearance iA.
