ALIGARH: Aligarh Muslim University professor, Dr Shrinivas Ramchandra Siras, who was suspended after some students set up cameras to catch him having consensual sex with a rickshaw-puller in his campus home, died in mysterious circumstances on Wednesday. Police have not ruled out suicide.
Professor Siras, reader and chairman of Modern Indian Languages at AMU, was on the verge of retirement when he was suspended. He later won a case in Allahabad High Court and was rstored as professor in the varsity.
However, most students at the Aligarh Muslim University have condemned Siras’ suspension.
“If they punished him according to Sharia, then they should remember that Sharia forbids anyone from peeking into someone else’s private life, so all those who made an intrusion in his life should be punished,” said a university student.
