Tonight I saw this program on Geo-Tv.
The four guests were:
Allama Kalb-e-Sadiq
Dr. Israr Ahmed
Maulana Ehtram-ul-Haq Thanvi
Allama Naqvi
A very nice program, only if the time constraint was not there.
Anyway, the discussion, IMO, had been very constructive with good agreements from both shia and sunni representatives. They both agreed that the incident of Karbala was a struggle against the monarchist rule. There were occassions where they had different point of view, nonetheless, the difference again showed a united ummah as they appear to agree with each other in disagreements as well :-D.
There was also mentioning of Allama Iqbal:rehm:. Being the greatest fan of Iqbal (and my interest had been developed in Iqbal’s poetry more long time ago after listening to Israr Ahmed on hundreds of time - aside the fact that some of his actions/words have been quite controversial due to lack of understanding by people IMO), the program had develped a great interest in me. And mentioning of his poetry about Karbala and Hussain 
really created a sense of true Islam in mind.
The host at one point said that Sunni and Shia can always be together just like **Seen **& Sheen are together in urdu alphabets, to which Dr. Israr Ahmed said: :mashaAllah:
In the questions time, there was a question asked to Dr. Israr Ahmed about how to remove secterianism from Ummah. He replied that the scholars can not do it. Don’t look at them because they themselves are the creation of secterianism.
At one point, host asked him if the ummah is in the state of the Makkah era and should we hold our hands against monarchy and injustice rather than standing against it just like Muslims did during the time of Madina. Dr. Israr Ahmed replied we are not even in Makki era because we haven’t started calling people to Islam.
Host also mentioned a sher which I don’t remember correctly but it was something along these lines:
Bahut seh’l hai MusalmaaN ko Kaafir kehnaa
Baat tub hai jub Kaafir ko MusalmaaN karo
All an all, it was one of the best programs I have ever seen where scholars of both sunni and shia school of thoughts were very informative and respectful.
It is my opinion that on the higher level, the scholars do understand the necessity of time and have no grudge (at least in the public) but it is those Ulaam-e-Soo in both Shias and Sunnis and those ignorant people among the ummah who creates anarchy, hatred, and injustice in the society.
