I have always wanted an Alienware laptop and right now I am on the verge of buying one.
Has anyone here ever bought/used an alienware pc or laptop?
Do you guys think they are overrated or definetly worth the price tag?

Re: Alienware Laptops
Overrated. Like the dell xps or the sony's (to an extent), alienwares are simply not the best bang for your buck by any standards. The price I'd pay for one alienware could get me two equally capable (specs wise) studios, timelines or the pavilions.
What makes you want to indulge in wanting one?
Re: Alienware Laptops
CC: tow things needed in gaming desktop. AMD processor, Graphics Card. modify your existing system.
Re: Alienware Laptops
STA: I don't have a desktop, only laptop. No point in me getting a desktop :( All my work is on my laptop and I need to move around a fair bit at times.
Exodus: Really? Two? Is it really that pricey? I was on the dell website and apparently you can't upgrade the bejeezus out of the xps or inspirons anymore.
Why do I want to indulge in one? It's like buying a ferrari. You can buy a cheaper car and modify it to be amazing, but having a ferrari is having a ferrari :D

I get the whole originality factor you bring into the mix, but it still doesn't cut me a good logical enough excuse to invest in something that at the end of the day just isn't as classy, smokinly hot or gets you that godly feel that a ferrari manages to deliver. And I just don't think its a well rounded enough device that would make me want to take a dive as deep as it requires me to. Acer once had a range of laptops that were named after ferrari, had the genuine leather, badges and even the distinct ferrari smell, nor was it as ridiculously priced as the AW's are.
Point being, AW or any custom fully fledged/high benchmarking builds are often on the bulkier side for one, the extra performance gadgets (SLI, dual standalone processors, low access rate, high spinning platters/SSD's) thrown in mainly are the contributing factors there and this literally destroys the portability aspect of a laptop for many. And then the unfortunate privilege of seeing few people hook these up to their hdmi screens as well, or bring them in as desktop replacements. Doesn't sound too wise to do.
Price, did check up on the AW X51 gaming PC for someone back in may, believe it was listed at $1,200 while a similar configured AW laptop was priced around $1,800 to 2,000 starting. Did seem considerably overpriced to me, it did.
Re: Alienware Laptops
Get a mac instead. When i were a little kid, i loved alienware desktops. Espcially the fact they looked liked aliens. But looking at it now its just a waste of money. I mean if you want a gaming computer you can building one your own and for much less too. You can also customize the hell out of a computer if you assemble it yourself. Also alienwares are really heavy and not much for portability. So that's just having a Tower computer on your desk that stays there. If you wanna spend some money get a mac, its portability and productivity combined. If you just want to play games get a PS3 or xbox. The thing with computer graphics is that every 2 months there is a new graphics card and your old one just doesn't meet the requirements anymore or there is a new processor out. I'd say save your money and get a mac or a ps3.
Re: Alienware Laptops
I know several people who are into PC gaming and have built their own computers etc, and they all hate Alienware. In fact, they hate the whole idea of laptops for gaming because it's hard to cool them, and they are overpriced. If you want a PC for gaming, get a desktop and build it yourself. You can get a very good PC for around $800-$1000 (will run the most recent games on the highest, or nearly the highest settings) and even a decent one for around $500. Check out Tom's Hardware forums for information and best "bang for your buck" GPU, CPUs etc.
Also do you want a laptop for purely gaming or for other things like video editing? For gaming, get a PC like I described above, with more emphasis on the graphics card and a little bit less on the processor. If you want it for processor heavy tasks, then you can get a cheaper graphics card and spend more on the processor. Either way, Alienware is not cost effective, IMO at least.
Re: Alienware Laptops
^ it almost seems you and my nephew exchanged notes! He has a desktop he built dedicated to gaming!

Great minds think alike?

Mcpendo: Cmon man. mac? really? I've got an xbox360 but I prefer keyboard and mouse over a controller.
Everyone: Okay so everyone is very anti alienware here, fair enough.
My friend bought one 5 years ago, and it still plays the game out nowadays hardly breaking a sweat. For a laptop, thats really awesome no?
