How secure is escrow service in general.
Anyone ever used alibaba’s escrow service?
Any thing I should lookout for before I order?

I've use aliexpress.com (same business but retail site) escrow service and didn't have any major problem with that except that sometimes the product itself is disappointing. If you are placing order on alibaba, i am assuming its for bulk order and in that case, don't go for China post. I've made only one purchase through alibaba but didn't use escrow and paid via paypal instead. The product was shipped through china post (pitched as free shipping) but it took 10 months to reach Pakistan. There are multiple vendors for the same product so make sure you select the ones with good reviews.

I am not ordering in bulk just one IPL machine and it will be shipped using DHL.
Since the item +shipping is around $5k,escrow will be safe.

The Escrow system is safe, if that's what you are asking for. They don't release the payment unless you verify that the product was received. I never had to dispute the amount but you should review their (alibaba's) dispute policy in case there is a problem. Also check the refund/return policy with your provider before making the purchase.
