In recent times, you’ve seen him staring down billboards, chewing a sweet or gulping down a cola on TV, playing a playful, romantic youth in popular tele-serials, while being active in theatre as well. However, it was the recording of a song for film Shararat, that launched Ali Zafar’s career.
“I have been singing for as long as I can remember,” says Ali with a half-smile. “And recently I did my first concert in Nottingham.”
And when he says that he is planning an album of his own, he doesn’t have to add that his first passion is music. “Acting and modelling can wait.”

Back to music, and Shararat, the movie remains a very important project for Ali, though he has sung only one song in the entire venture. “It is a duet with Shabnam Majeed, but very important for me,” he says. “It’s a soft melody - quite different from the ones that you get to hear in Pakistani movies.”

Ali’s next projects are Lunda bazaar - a play which also stars Babar Ali, Farah Shah, Maria Wasti and Janna Malik, and a serial, tentatively titled, Bohat der kar di Karachi. Also, on the cards is Abrar’s next video, Preito, which has Ali opposite model Natasha. So, from the looks of it, this multi-talented person’s hands are full, for the present at least. But, Ali also has the advantage of flexing his creative muscles in a variety of related fields, without fear of being stereotyped.
