Time magazine has just conducted a poll and selected + published it’s list of 100 most influential personalities , interestingly in that poll Ali Saleem was a candidate too , ( only pakistani candidate after our very own mushi sahab ) , was something unexpected for me , cuzz even though he’s very popular but still considered a controversial celebrity for obvious reasons what do u guys have to say …
**AGE: **28
**OCCUPATION: **Talk-show host in Pakistan
**NUMBER OF TIME COVERS: **0
**PREVIOUS APPEARANCES ON THE TIME 100: **0
**PRO: **Openly bisexual, coquettish drag-queen host of the Late Night Show With Begum Nawazish Ali, who busts social taboos as she interviews Pakistan’s rich and famous, airing controversial political and sexual issues in a highly conservative society. **CON: **Saleem walks a fine line, and knows she must keep her commentary within palatable limits. A slight shift in Pakistan’s political winds could put an end to the surprising tolerance of powerful fundamentalist clerics and military brass that has kept her show on the air.
Re: Ali Saleem ......... made it to the time magazine poll
Goray are ignorant, stuff like this just proves they know zilch about our society and our peoples psychology... Their world revolves around CNN..
They have their image of Pakistan totally messed up if they think he's too bold for Pak or Pak is too conservative... Whether the reality is good or bad I don't know but Pak society certainly isn't how they make it out to be.
When was it extraoridnary to be Hijra in Pakistan? Every city has a Hijra community. When was it weird for a Paki to admit to being bisexual? The actual act is considered sinful but there is no label or tabboo on being attracted to either gender, people who feel that way are not treated like leopers, as though they've got a contagious disease like they are in the west and probably always will be despite the laws..
The guy is over rated, he was funny at first but now he annoys me.
Re: Ali Saleem ......... made it to the time magazine poll
yeah but is he worthy enough to be part of such poll ( according to toloo , overrated )?? i mean does he have a strong impact in society other than entertaining people in his own unique way ??don't u think there r dozens of pakistani way more influential than him .
Re: Ali Saleem … made it to the time magazine poll
I am surprised that it states ‘openly bisexual’. He was certainly very flustered when such insinuation was made by Ali Azmat in an interview. To my knowledge he denies profusely. Although it appears its doesnt take much to get nominated in the poll
Re: Ali Saleem ......... made it to the time magazine poll
I find his program a drag (pun intended). I think, other than the novelty value, the program is fairly inane and about the only funny thing is to see all these celebrities tolerating this moron and playing along. If I ever become famous enough to be interviewed on national tv in Pakistan, I'd rather be on Liyari King Live than on the program by this bimbo.

Re: Ali Saleem ......... made it to the time magazine poll
Ali Saleem's gone totally over board with his filthy double-meaning dialogs on his show. The show and he himself are both outrageous to start with, and it takes public figures down to its level every time it goes on air. And the fact that all these ministers, celebrities, media-people all act bisexual and horny with him is just disgusting. Where does it portray the social moral standards of influential Pakistanis to be standing?
Cant recall who it was but there have been times when male guests have followed him in his cheap talk and make comments such as 'I'll show you after the show', 'I like it hard, you know what I mean', and Begum Nawazish always comes back with a more steamy response on the verge of being outright vulgar and ingestible for Pakistani society. With the women he indulges in equally horny and frustrated talk, discussing men, sizes, types and so on. Yet the program trampling our values and certifying media-freedom to a certain degree goes on and on, and Aaj TV then has the nerve to shout slogans about lack of media freedom.
As far I see it, he's even making a mockery of homosexuals, transvestites and the local Hijrras.
I hear he/she receives about Rs 0.35 Million per episode. Thats 4 episodes and 1.4 Million PKR each month. Apparently it's being heard his/her contract with Aaj is almost over and there could be a switchover to ARY in a different yet bisexual form.
God bless us...
Re: Ali Saleem ......... made it to the time magazine poll
I don't even know who this person is. Surely he can't be one of the 100 most influential people in the world if even a lot of Pakistanis don't know about it.

That's becasue he's trying to expose these politicians and celebrities for what they are. It made an impact on you, so I guess Ali Saleem's plan worked.
Re: Ali Saleem ......... made it to the time magazine poll
Well that's not his plan, and I don't want to have the real faces exposed on satellite tv in this manner. Most ppl already know the true faces and besides would prefer courageous documentaries rather than this if exposing is in fact the motive.
