Algeria police chief shot dead

**The chief of Algeria’s national police force, Ali Tounsi, has been shot dead in the capital, Algiers, officials say.**The shooting took place during a regular morning meeting in the police headquarters in front of a number of witnesses, the interior ministry said.

The alleged killer was a fellow police officer who had an argument with the police chief, the ministry added.

He is now in hospital under custody after trying to kill himself after the shooting, news agencies reported.
