Alfalah Bank Tournament in Sri Lanka

Kuch aur reh giya ho tau woh bhi irshaad karr dein.

Now where are those who were saying PAK batted pathetic against NZ.

Here's the outcome

NZ with experienced and well set players makes only 138 against the Lankans.

PAK a team in the process of re-build with plenty of young guns and very less experience scores 116 against NZ.

True, eventhough the conditions are bowler friendly but if a side can bat very carefully, they can put on a decent score, any score over 150 is a competitive on this pitch.

The groundsman need to do some hard work to make this pitch a little batsman friendly before Pakistan Sri Lanka match on 18th.

The threat of being dropped has not weighed on Shoaib Akhtar’s mind during the current Bank Alfalah Cup, according to the Pakistan captain, Rashid Latif.

“I don’t think he [Shoaib] is feeling any pressure in this series. Other players have taken the pressure off him,” Latif insisted. “He has bowled impressively in both the matches and proved that he is still one of the best strike bowlers in the world. This tour could be the turning point of his career.”

Shoaib was warned by Lt-Gen. Tauqir Zia, president of the Pakistan Cricket Board, before the start of the series that the series would be the last chance to kick-start his career. Shoaib was dropped following Pakistan’s dismal performance in the World Cup.

Latif said that the threat was not affecting Shoaib. “He is a match-winner and we’d like him to keep a low profile,” Latif explained. “We’ve told each player not to fear failure, but to play positive and competitive cricket. So I don’t think he is under pressure to deliver.”

Zia’s warning appeared to have done some good. In his first match of the series, Shoaib grabbed two crucial wickets for 19 runs in eight overs to set up Pakistan’s 79-run victory over Sri Lanka.

Batting lineup aganist Sri Lanka on May17.

I think Rashid Latif should include his best players in the side because this match will b crucial for qualifying for finals…

Wicket worry for Sri Lanka

Triangular series, Dambulla: Sri Lanka v Pakistan - match starts 0500 BST Saturday

Sri Lanka’s proud record of winning every home one-day series they have hosted since 1998 could be under threat.

The decision to switch the second half of the triangular competition to Dambulla because of persistent rain in Colombo could play into the hands of Pakistan and New Zealand.

Each team has so far won one match out of two, but Sri Lanka’s traditional strengths in batting and spin bowling have been partially negated by pitches which favour the seamers.

The highest total made so far at the Rangiri Stadium was Pakistan’s 199 all out in the opening game against Sri Lanka.

“The lively wicket and the overcast weather seems to be better suited for our rivals,” said Sri Lankan skipper Marvan Atapattu.

But their win over New Zealand has encouraged the Sri Lankan squad and they will not surrender their record without a fight.

“We mean business, and we’re in the contest for winning this title. The series is still wide open, we just need our middle-order batsmen to strike form,” Atapattu insisted.

Groundsman Anuruddha Polonowita has prepared two new strips for the second round of games, which he hopes will result in more runs being scored.

But he admits that unless there is plenty of sunshine to dry them out, the advantage may remain with the seamers.

Pakistan have won six out of seven matches since the World Cup and their new-look side has gelled well under skipper Rashid Latif.

He is concerned, however, that some of the pressure on paceman Shoaib Akhtar, the world’s fastest bowler, should be shouldered by the rest of the attack.

“Shoaib’s always been a high-profile bowler, often in the news with hyped-up expectations,” he said.

He’s crucial to our plans, but we’re not going to keep projecting him as our lone match-winner.

“With the pressure gone, Shoaib can keep a low profile and do his job of getting batsmen out.”

why does pakistan have 6 points n nz 7?

cuz sri lanka didnt get bonus when they paly against nz ..so no bonus .then one point gone to nz///hope i am right .//dont knowmuch about this stuff

**Points System **

Win, with bonus point 6
Win, without bonus point 5
Tie or No Result 3
**Loss, but not conceding bonus point 1 **
Loss, conceding bonus point 0

The team that achieves a run rate of 1.25 times that of the opposition shall be awarded one bonus point. A team’s run rate will be calculated by reference to the runs scored in an innings divided by the number of overs faced.

New Zealand did not concede a bonus point in their lost match agaisnt Sri Lanka. That gives them one point, and as Pakistan did concede a bonus point in their loss to New Zealand, so we didnt get that one point. HJope that helps.

**Sri Lanka, Pakistan waiting for stars to sparkle **](http://uk.sports.yahoo.com/030517/323/e07yx.html)

DAMBULLA, Sri Lanka (AFP) - Sri Lanka and Pakistan are looking forward to a big knock from their leading batsmen when they clash in a triangular one-day cricket series match here on Sunday.

Top Sri Lankan run-getter Sanath Jayasuriya and star Pakistani batsman Yousuf Youhana have failed to do justice to their stature in the previous two matches dominated by bowlers on seamer-friendly tracks.

The left-handed Jayasuriya, with 9,062 runs and 16 centuries in 302 one-dayers, could not score against Pakistan and contributed 33 in the second game against New Zealand.

Sri Lanka expect him to show the way in the second-leg of preliminary league matches on seaming tracks where their batting has left a lot to be desired.

“There has been a long slump in our batting and I hope things improve in the remaining matches,” said Sri Lankan captain Marvan Atapattu, whose team made 120 against Pakistan before struggling to reach a 139-run target against New Zealand.

Jayasuriya holds the key to his team’s fortunes, for he is not only the most experienced batsman in the squad but also has the shots to dominate bowling on any surface.

Like Jayasuriya, Youhana also has not fired in the first-leg matches.

The stylish middle-order Pakistani batsman, with 4,491 runs and eight centuries in 133 one-day internationals, made two brief visits to the crease as he made one against Sri Lanka and nought against New Zealand.

Pakistani captain Rashid Latif said he expected an improved performance from his batsmen in the remaining matches.

“We are capable of batting better,” he said.

“Our performance was satisfactory in the first-leg considering the conditions (overcast weather and seaming pitches). But we can still do better, especially in batting.”

Latif said his team’s biggest asset was that it had bowlers to deliver in crunch situations.

“Our bowlers can defend targets. They are capable of changing the course of a match anytime,” he said.

"Shoaib Akhtar bowled very well in the opening game (against Sri Lanka) and proved that he is still one of the best strike bowlers in the world. Young seamers Mohammad Sami and Umar Gul also have been impressive.

“We are rebuilding the side after the World Cup. What is important for us is to play positive and competitive cricket. Each player should put in his 100 percent effort. The boys have so far responded well to the situation.”

New Zealand, Pakistan and Sri Lanka each have posted one win in two first-leg matches. The final between the top two sides will be held here on May 23.
