Alcohol

Guys, I’m just curious - is it illegal to sell alcohol in Pakistan? I know Muslims are not allowed to consume alcohol, but are there restaurants where alcohol is served (for people of other faiths, foreign visitors etc)?

Re: Alcohol

Yes, it is available in restaurants so not illegal to sell, although it is illegal to export it. Also, we make one of the most popular beers in the world via the Murree Brewery. However, they say you have to have a visit visa to buy some but people get around that and can consume it anyway. There are some out-in-the-open shops in Karachi which have bootleggers who can bring it to your house if you want. In ISB it is available even more easily, I think Alcohol is probably consumed the most in either KHi or ISB. Lahore has a few bootleggers and some shops but nothing obnoxious advertising it.

Thanks for the info!

Re: Alcohol

didnt know this :)

Re: Alcohol

Muree beer is just like dog's piss when you compare it with black maria Guinness ]

Re: Alcohol

guinness is all hype and marketing and zero taste. anyone who knows a good stout wont touch it with a ten foot pole.

Re: Alcohol

I personally have never tried any alcohol but I’m really curious about Muree’s beer. I know some places in America manage to get it at some bars but then again, it would be a different thing to try some while being in Murree.

And here is the official website for Murree Brewery: http://www.murreebrewery.com/

Re: Alcohol

Thanks! I’ll try to look for it in the US.

Re: Alcohol

i am really curioius to know more about Murree brewery beer as quite often people ask me about any made in Pakitan beer and i could never tell them any thing about it.

Re: Alcohol

so your pick is ?

Re: Alcohol

Check the website, it has a good history section.

Re: Alcohol

i've had the murree beer. it's interesting and not bitter than most beers. it seems closer to european beers then american ones, given its british legacy.

Re: Alcohol

You tried it in Pakistan or outside of Pakistan?

Re: Alcohol

I was in a hotel in Jacobabad, out of all things. I've also had it in Islamabad.

Re: Alcohol

thanks, i will surely check it some time soon.
