Alcohol Haram

I have no question about its being haraam but yesterday we had an argument with on of our neighbor and he said no where in Qoeran it was said that alcohol is haram.
He doesn’t want the reference from hadias just from Qoeran this is what I found

"O you who believe! Intoxicants, gambling, idolatry and arrows (for seeking help on decision) one an abomination of order that you may be successful.
Shaytan seeks only to cast amongst you enmity and hatred by means of strong drink and gambling, and hinder you from the remembrance of Allah and from his worship, will you then not refrain? ”
(Surah Ma’idah 90)

Re: Alcohol Haram

So what you neighbor thinks now?

Re: Alcohol Haram

Wow so that isn't like as strong as "don't do it" but its almost like its in your best interest not to drink since its bad for you and will cause you to do bad things, same as how gambling is bad for your finances family etc. In Pakistan alcohol is thought of as the worst of the sins but its probably not as bad as say taking interest (which is making American society fall apart right now) or lying, taking bribes etc. I wonder why everyone gets so worked about what you eat and drink rather than the big things people do.

Re: Alcohol Haram

People who "WANT" to do any specific act without selflessly & sincerely considering / searching the truth, would always come up with justifications for doing it, one way or the other, no matter how many times you show them the proofs from authentic sources with logical reasoning.

Even thieves and murderers also try to justify their acts to be right, what to talk of anyone else who do minor sins.

Re: Alcohol Haram

^:salam:
Totally agree with the above.I’ve seen people try to justify themselves so many a times.

Re: Alcohol Haram

Still.... being disliked do not mean haram.

Re: Alcohol Haram

How can you not believe the Hadith... that is like a survival guide to us all.....
Yes, i too agree that when people want to do bad, they ask where is the proof, if its not very clear, then its fine..:(

Re: Alcohol Haram

There is no way Muhammad and his army never had a drink after a long day at the battlefield.

aj hor peen nu ji karda
ik hor gilassy bharde !

Well my neighbor does not drink he was only saying that Koern does not say it is haram and he didn't want to listen to the hadiths (where is totally clear that it is haram and there is no tolerance for it in Islam), but I was kind of surprised to see that Koern is not saying it strongly that it HARAM

Re: Alcohol Haram

^If he looks in the Quran for prohibition of all things in life, he may run into trouble. Hadith are an interpretational source in simple terms of what is permissible and what isn't.

Example: Find in Quran, if a donkey is Halal or Haram to consume.

There is no way you were around to witness that, so why assume? :)
