al-meraj..

Did Prophet Muhammad PBUH went in heavens bodily or was it just a kashaf? would someone please shed some light on it . Thanks.

Re: al-meraj..

what is kashaf ?

Re: al-meraj..

its kinda like dream, but it happens while u are awake

Re: al-meraj..

It was a bodily experience. If it would have been just spiritual then mind you, Rasoolulah:saw: used to get such spiritual journeys every now and then. There is a reason why ALLAH:swt: had to say this in surah Al Israa (or Bani Isreal as its other name):

:bism:
17:1 Glory to(Allah) Who did take His servant on a Journey by night from the Sacred Mosque to the Aqsa Mosque, whose precincts We did bless, in order that We might show him some of Our Signs.

and then in Surah An Najm:
**53:8 **He approached and came closer,
**53:9 **and was at a distance of two bow lengths or even nearer

then then Rasoolulah :saw: saw ALLAH:swt: second time at sidrat al muntahaa

**53:11 *****The blessed heart (and mind) in no way falsified what he saw: ***
**53:12 *****Will ye then dispute with him concerning what he saw? ***
53:13 Indeed he saw him at a second time
**53:14 **Station of the lote tree

Those who doubt about this were those Abu Jahl and other Mushrikeen of Makkah who jested about it and went to Abu Bakr:razi: , the answer of him was the answer which must be the faith and belief of every muslim. He was given name of Siddique after that incident. He said: “We witness and belief in much unbelievable things about Muhammad:saw: than this. We believe that an angel comes to him with the words of our Lord”

Re: al-meraj..

it was a physical journey, not merely a spiritual one....

so is He wrong ? http://alislam.org/multimedia/qa/play.php?id=10

i did not hear it....
but since that comes from ahmadis, it cant be all true, they have their own set of stories, which differ from what muslims believe in....

Re: al-meraj..

a spiritual (non-physical) journey doesn’t explain why the Meccan mushriks were so surprised and disbelieving of the meraj story… there’s nothing exceptional about visiting Jerusalem and then the heavens in one’s dreams or in some spiritual, visionary state… many people have probably had such similar dreams… their reaction to the news of the meraj story is a strong clue that the Prophet (saw) was talking of a miraculous, physical journey

i’m with the view that these verses refer to Prophet Muhammad (saw) seeing Angel Gibrail (in his true, multi-winged form i believe)… commentators have discussed both understandings: that of him (saw) seeing Allah or of seeing Gibrail

Re: al-meraj..

53:14 refers to Sidrat Al Muntahaa and which is in up heavens.

Re: al-meraj..

^ and Angel Gibrail is not in heaven?
