As far as I know its not necessary to have one but for the sake of it when my brother in law converted he changed his name from Trevor to Tanveer simply just because no rhyme or reason just a sense of completion to the muslim faith.
I dunno where the rest of these guys are coming out that its absolutely mandatory without quoting anything.
