Re: Akmal ruled out of ODI series!!

This should have happened in the home series against S.Africa, where the new boy would have felt less pressure as compared to the furnace that is Pak V India.
I believe it is a very good dicision to bring sarfaraz ahmed to give some rest to kamran akmal he drop the catch on very first ball and it make upset the bowlers we need to have two options like moin and latif so they have competition with each other so they will perform better.
We need a wicket keeper how should be hardhitting batsman who can come in late overs to give quick runs because we have good middle order like yousaf, younis and misbah i guess shoaib should open the innings with butt so he can give good start to team.
Speaking strictly about the ODI's, isnt Abdul Razzaq a better all-round option than Rao Iftikhar. I think he would be a bigger and better contributer, if not a match winner as compared to the above mentioned. 8 an over in the last 10 doesnt seem a problem if you know a dynamic hitter is still waiting for his turn. PLus the fact that it would take a lot of pressure off the present hitters which include Afridi and Malik.

‘Kamran remains first-choice keeper for Gwalior one-dayer’

GWALIOR, India: A day after ruling him out of the One-day International series against India because of injury, Pakistan declared on Monday that Kamran Akmal remained their first choice wicket-keeper for the fourth ODI to be played here on November 15.

A Pakistan team official told ‘The News’ that Kamran Akmal is working hard to recover in time for the Gwalior one-dayer and attended a training session with his teammates at the Sahara City near Lucknow on Monday and also underwent a fitness test.

“Kamran Akmal remains our first choice wicket-keeper, there shouldn’t be any doubt about it,” Dr Ahsan Hameed Malik, the team’s media manager, said. His comments came just a day after Pakistan sent an SOS back home, asking the selectors to send in a replacement for the injured Akmal for the rest of the series. They announced that Akmal injured his hand during the current tour of India and will be out of the remaining matches of the ODI series.

It was decided that young wicket-keeper Sarfraz Ahmed, who led Pakistan to a title-winning triumph in the 2006 Youth World Cup in Sri Lanka, will be sent to India as Akmal’s replacement. But Malik clarified that Sarfraz is just coming to India as a back-up and if fit, Akmal would continue to keep the wicket for Pakistan in the remaining matches of the series that also includes three Tests.

There were speculations that Pakistan asked for a replacement wicket-keeper to assuage media pressure. Pakistani media has been critical of Akmal because of his poor form in recent times. Akmal has been spilling catches regularly since last summer’s tour of England and also dropped Saurav Ganguly off Shoaib Akhtar on the first ball of the third one-dayer against India in Kanpur on Sunday.

Ganguly went on to give India a good start with Sachin Tendulkar and the hosts won the match by 46 runs to go 2-1 up in the five-match series. However, Malik rejected reports that Sarfraz is coming to India to replace Akmal because of the latter’s poor form. “We have called up Sarfraz because Kamran is facing fitness problems. We still have a lot of matches to go in this series and cannot afford not having a specialist wicket-keeper in the playing line-up.”

Malik said that Akmal would continue training with the national team and would undergo another fitness test ahead of the Gwalior one-dayer before a final decision is taken as to who will keep the wickets for Pakistan in the must-win game.

Meanwhile, Sarfraz will join the Pakistan team on November 14 (Wednesday), just a day before the fourth one-dayer. It remains to be seen whether Pakistan, who have the option of fielding opening batsman Yasir Hameed as a stand-in wicket-keeper in Gwalior, will field Sarfraz in the game if Akmal fails to get fit in time. Akmal is suffering from a bruise on his left hand and Malik said tht his injury is not serious. “We are all hoping that he (Akmal) will regain his fitness.”

Re: Akmal ruled out of ODI series!!

Someone was seen outside Gwalior stadium jumping up and down, changing "dressing" on his wounds every 5 minutes.

Re: Akmal ruled out of ODI series!!

I can't fathom the reason for their hesitation in replacing Akmal... given his current form, anyone will be better than Akmal.

Phusssssssssss

there goes our very short lived celebrations.

He just won't leave us alone.

Re: Akmal ruled out of ODI series!!

I hope he recovers in time for the game.

Re: Akmal ruled out of ODI series!!

^^ and I also hope that he breaks Afridi's record of fastest hundred in the next match and takes some impossible catches. :D

Re: Akmal ruled out of ODI series!!

doesn't really matter. It is all a cover-up :p
Kamran will not be featuring since he will not "recover" on time for the 4th and the 5th ODI. By the start of the test series Pakistan team will comeup with some new injury for him or the current one will get worse. Yar ab thora bhut tu drama karna ho ga na.

Re: Akmal ruled out of ODI series!!

Fascinating, simply fascinating. Mind-boggling, rather. Over 70 days that the tour of England lasted from last year, there was no second wicket-keeper in the team. Right, they couldn't 'afford' to take an extra specialist last year. The talk now of inducting a second specialist (thank God) wicket-keeper in the team for a series next door because of a lot of matches? The piece does not sink in all that well.

Re: Akmal ruled out of ODI series!!

I feel this ploy is a method by management to put pressure on Akmal and see if he improves or not by having someone else knocking at the door (which has never been the case before). He will play tomorrow or maybe the last one dayer but not sure about test series, it depends on his performances tomorrow and in last match.

That's why i think we shouldn't blame Akmal for his performances, he gives his best and it's not his fault that he is a CRAP keeper. Team management and selectors are to be blamed if any catches are dropped by Akmal in future.

I hope they are just playing mind games but wait they need mind to play these games :|

Re: Akmal ruled out of ODI series!!
