AJK Elections

the elections will be held tomorrow, a fight is expected between Muslim Conference, PMLN and PPP. This will be a big setback for NS if PMLN does not win there, as he is campaigning there for the past 5 days…

Re: AJK Elections

i just heard on Dunya TV that elections have been postponed in 3 constituencies.

Re: AJK Elections

^^ U heard it right

Re: AJK Elections

well look at it this way, PML-N has just woke up from their three and half year sleep, this elections is nothing more than a warm-up game for them, they if loose would be able to identify their weakness and would be covering up for that ( if they they have any sanity in their ranks) and 2ndly and most importantly, all political parties have to take part in electoral process, i wonder why PTI has shown no interest in AJK elections??? i wonder if they are even aware of the fact that AJK elections are not BY-Elections...

Re: AJK Elections

They will never loose elections. And if they did loose, the polls would be rigged ;)

The myth of 68% popularity would have come crumbling down, had PTI gone into this election. Apparantly they have decided to wait for another 1-n-half years and let the bubble burst on a bigger battleground.

Re: AJK Elections

This is summary of the seats and contestants

Re: AJK Elections

And where is IK ?
He was not in GB elections too.
He is only working with estab to manage some seats for him.
I think he is focusing on Punjab/Lahore Province only.

Re: AJK Elections

He thinks that elections are waste of money and time, only Dharnas + Jalsas can win him Premier Ship...

and i agree avoiding elections shows either he is depending on FAR****AS to get close to power corridors or His party is not ready to take part in election, in case of later, if 15 years are not enough to organize a party, or even worse, if a man cannot organize his political party, how come he'll be running country??? even army generals who have ceased power in past at least knew how to command and control...

Re: AJK Elections

This election will set the tone for the next elections as nawaz sharif and peoples party both would Try to win them, as it would be a set back to them if they lost.As far as pti is concerned, it's good to see that some people are concerned about it more than it's founder with regards to not participating in the elections.

MQM boycotts AJK elections

Updated at: 1719 PST, Saturday, June 25, 2011

KARACHI: The Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) has announced to boycott the Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) elections, Geo News reported.

Addressing a press conference here on Saturday, Deputy Convener of MQM Dr. Farooq Sattar said that it was unconstitutional to postpone polling in three constitutional seats.

According to Dunya news, the government has forced MQM to boycott elections.

Re: AJK Elections

This time the rigging has taken place, but for MQM ;)

Re: AJK Elections

Biased election commission. It says that elections in Karachi are postponed due to security situation. But one of PPP ministers in Sindh says that LB elections can be held in Karachi.
How come one elections could be held but others can’t?

http://tribune.com.pk/story/180336/managing-cities-local-body-elections-can-be-held-within-90-days/
**SUKKUR: **Local government elections could be held within 90 days provided there is a consensus with our coalition partners, said Sindh Minister for Local Government Agha Siraj Durrani.

Re: AJK Elections

What ever the case was they could have fought for their case, shunning the elections is never a good thing.

Besides it seems that ppp is trying it's level best to win these elections by hook or by crook, but any rigging in ajk will leave a bad taste in our politics.

Re: AJK Elections

MQM is for PPP what PTI is for PMLN.

http://www.dailytimes.com.pk/default.asp?page=2011\06\26\story_26-6-2011_pg12_2

Dr Sattar said, “We understand that stopping the people of Kashmir from their right to vote by a political party claiming to be the champion of democracy is not only worthy of strong condemnation but dishonourable at the same time.”
**Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) was pressurising MQM to withdraw its candidates from the seats, he said, adding, that polling was postponed when MQM refused to withdraw contesting from the same seats.
**He further pointed out that interior minister among various other personalities pressurised his party (MQM).

Despite the fact that Sindh chief minister had himself accepted on the floor of the house that the law and order situation had improved, IG Police Sindh Wajid Durrani was asked to make a fictitious report highlighting security concerns, he informed.

Re: AJK Elections

Chances are Peoples Party & PML-N will win even seats.
Regardless of whoever wins, the peaceful voting shows the maturity of our politicans, at least by time they are coming back to senses. AJK elections will set the momentum for rest of the country for coming elections.

Re: AJK Elections

Ok thanks for that! Its my personal point of view, but I think if MQM could have exposed the government while staying in the elections it would have sent a powerful message. But this way Government has got their way at the expense of MQM.

Re: AJK Elections

What I see from news items is that even if MQM had taken part and elections were held, there was little chance that elections could have been impartial.
In other words, PPP Sindh had decided that MQM will not be allowed to win the two seats. That probably was the reason for boycott.

He said the government had set up polling stations in sensitive area of Karachi where MQM workers and voters could not go and vote freely.

Re: AJK Elections

Its interesting that out of the 41 seats, 12 of them are in Pakistan (9 in Punjab, 2 in Sindh and 1 in KP). The ones being contested in Punjab would be a contest between PMLN and PPP, which would be interesting.

It is to be mentioned here, direct elections will be held on 41 seats of Azad Jammu Kashmir Legislative Assembly (AJKLA) of which 12 fall in Pakistan as the share of refugees of Jammu and Kashmir Valley settled in Pakistan.

Of total 12 AJKLA seats in Pakistan, nine fall in Punjab, two in Sindh and one in Khyber-Pukhtunkhawa. **

Six of the seats in Pakistan are the share of refugees of Occupied Jammu, while another six allocated to the refugees of Held Kashmir Valley.

The reserve seats of AJKLA include five seats for women, one for overseas Pakistanis, one for technocrat and the last for ulema and mashaikh.

More than 30 candidates are running for nine seats of Punjab, which are the share of refugees of Jammu and Kashmir Valley settled in Pakistan, while five of the seats in Punjab fixed for refugees of Jammu and the remaining four are the share of refugees of the Valley.
It is learnt that PML-Q according to an understanding with PPP fielded only one candidate from Gujrat and on rest of the AJKLA seats in Punjab it would back the PPP candidates.
The record available with The Nation regarding the constituencies of AJKLA in Punjab and the vicinities covering the seats include LA-31 (Jammu-2) with suburban areas of Gujranwala and district Pasrur.

Another Jammu seat LA-32 (Jammu-3) spreads over the district Sialkot, which is considered to be the largest Jammu refugees belt, while LA-33 (Jammu-4) covers district Narowal and its tehsil Shakargarh, which is also heavily populated with the inhabitants of Jammu refugees. %between%

Re: AJK Elections

This is a quite changed election .
In the past elections were often between PPP and Muslim Conference.
This time PML N has come first time as a party.
This has changed the traditional patron of the election and also the atmosphere .
