So, if i have 3 new messages that means i should have three UNREAD messages not 0… so if i have 0 unread messages, i should have NO (0) new messages… something wrong or is it just me!

If you got three new messages, and you read them, and come back to the main page, you will get the "3 new messages, 0 unread messages" under your Private Inbox. If you logout and come back then you will get "0 new messages, 0 unread messages". The word "new" refers to messages since your cookies were reset, not necessarily that you have not read them.
If, you had "3 new messages, 0 unread messages" showing, and then you get another PM, on the next refresh it will show "4 new messages, 1 unread message(s)".
