She's obviously being pressured by someone. To say that she was pressured by some mediaperson is no better than saying she was pressured by the doctor himself or the pak gov't to save face.
And if you're assuming that just because she took back the statement, that she was lying about the rape, then I'm disgusted.
Great, the last thing we need is for girls to start using rape as a cheap publicity weapon. It may sound harsh but that's exactly what it sounds like after reading the news article. Slandering and ruining someone's name are not crimes to be taken lightly either.
I don't know why DNA tests aren't used more often in Pakistan. Maybe if they have Angelina Jolie come to Pakistan or Aishwarya Rai and have a DNA test done themselves, then maybe it will become more fahionable.
Excuse the sarcasm, but I do agree that its frustrating that there is NO evidence to go on other than he-said-she-said.
Anyway, the story (if true) is horrible and sad. That doctor shud be locked up. But i wud like to say, that it is unfair to see all doctors in Pakistan in this light. There r bad doctors everywhere. As a woman, not only wud i be afraid to be alone with a male doctor in Pakistan, but in any country of the world. It is naivety to think this only goes on in third world countries. Also i agree with hiccup, that u don’t need training in ethics to know right from wrong. Sane ppl know that rape and murder is wrong.
where did you get this info?
i was just thinking what motive an 18 yr old girl admitted to a hospital may have for accusing the doctor of rape and the fact that they refused DNA test complicates things. but again it could be due to the fact that they are being pressured. shouldnt a DNA test be a must in this case? in case the doctor is innocent, is it not important that his name also be cleared since his rep is at stake, even though the girl took back the statement? so dont u think DNA testing shoulda been done to clear up the issue anyways?
The way you reply and post, is in no way different than ignorants leaving no opportunity to criticise US while living in a mess themselves, so whats the difference between you and other mud-slingers?
Shouldn't the SC of Pakistan be dealing with constitutional and institutional issues rather than rape cases, kite flying, and wedding meals that are usually the jurisdiction of lower courts?
But on this case, who knows what the truth is, but I rather believe this woman then anyone in the government going from past record.
Just don’t get into conclusion is my advise. if you have preoccupied ideas and this is bound to happen.
Men in Pakistan are no different than any other place and perhaps have more fear of Allah than/God than other places just because of the upbringing and social structure.
Please read facts and then make conclusion.
Again Doctors in Pakistan are to be respected as they provide so much to the poor people. I mean majority.
While everyone agrees that justice and truth are good you are promoting bias and gut feeling or plain simple hate!!
Why do you want a potential innocent person to lose his credibility?
The topic itself is biased without proof that any crime did occur.
Now if a woman withdraws the case herself, the men bashing women and so called freedom fighters for women do not want to accept it and unncessarily want to drag the issue.
Where is sense and sensibility and where does insensibility end?
Again "Some from among the patients and their families who were in the same Mayo Hospital ward as Ajeeba told Daily Times* she spent three hours in the X-ray room on the day of the alleged rape. They said she spent the next two days weeping, and then narrated the incident to another girl in the ward. *
Dr Leghari, about 43, does not have a good reputation, **hospital officials told Daily Times.* They said there were numerous complaints from patients against him on record. Some 30 pairs of women’s underwear were found in his car and the incident was reported in the Urdu press."*
how can people ignore this HUGE evidence? What motives do patients have to hurt the Doc's rep? what motive do staff have? what motive does daily times have?
actually i was not arguing with you. i just stated that part as a general question. and my first question was directed towards finding out where you got the info on DNA test.
Nothing biased here. The government has lied and covered up many crimes before, so why not this one? Musharraf himself has said that Pakistan’s image is more important than justice for victims.
Going by these facts, I would rather believe the girl over any government official.
I understand. But a crime that serious deserves more info and evidence. Underwear story is just one piece of ‘indirect’ evidence or even just a coincidence with a fetish kind of person!!
We definitely need education of people and law enforcement agencies about what is required for a crime to be proven with success. DNA evidence or something substantial was needed in this case. No one can do anything if the girl/woman herself withdraws case or does not provide evidence.
