**ISLAMABAD, April 19: PPP Senator and member of the Pakistan Bar Council (PBC) Muhammad Latif Khan Khosa said on Saturday that lawyers would not allow Chaudhry Aitzaz Ahsan to take part in by-elections.
Senator Khosa said hundreds of lawyers had been deprived of the opportunity to contest the general election because of his (Mr Ahsan’s) decision of boycotting it.
Senator Khosa, who spoke to the media after attending the PBC meeting, said the council had taken serious notice of Mr Ahsan’s decision to take part in the by-elections and served a notice, asking his explanation.
He said a man who had boycotted the general election despite requests by colleagues not to do so, had no moral authority to take part in the by-elections.
Another masala news. bhai meray, tum kub magar mach ke aansoo rona bandh karogay? You can not fool all people all the time. You deliberately forgot counter news.
LAHORE, April 19: Supreme Court Bar Association president Aitzaz Ahsan on Saturday said he had decided to contest the by-election.
He said he had requested the PPP leadership to allow him to contest for a National Assembly seat, which was essentially a PML-N’s domain under an agreement reached between the Pakistan People’s Party and the Pakistan Muslim League-N.
“I am grateful to Mian Nawaz Sharif for agreeing not to field a candidate against me. We are also grateful to him for his clear stand on the issue of the reinstatement of the deposed judiciary,” he added.
So help me understand. The lawyers are pissed here because they would have ran in general elections, except that they decided to boycott it at that time, and now Aitzaz is running in a bye-election? I mean, the decision to boycott was a single-man decision (made by Aitzaz alone) or was it made collectively by lawyers?
And is the decision to boycott, a timeless and indefinite decision, or can people decide to get back in the political process at some point?
And most importantly, are they saying its ILLEGAL for Aitzaz to contest election, or they just think its IMMORAL for him to contest a bye-election after lawyers had decided to boycott the original?
This just seems like another publicity stunt by a bunch of eternally pissed off people.
I hope Aitizaz Ahsan does not get issues from his lawyer friends. He would make an excellent Law Minister in PM Gilani's cabinet, or in Great Zardari's cabinet when Great Zardari becomes the PM.
So Aitzaz is about to do the dirty on his lawyer friends as well? Opportunism and treachery (as well as double dealing) has been a hallmark throughout his career, and that is why even BB (and now Zardari) kept a distance from him.
Aitzaz Ahsan is an extremely chalaak man! His whole campaign has been for personal gain and personal gain only. He forced all lawyers to boycott the elections, even threatening them with suspension from the Bar Associations if they participated… all along trying to stand his wife in the elections in his place. That’s why we saw her acting like such a great civil society leader during those days – she was running her election campaign. Until people protested.
Now after screwing over all the lawyers who wanted to participate in the elections, he himself wants to stand in by-elections! You can see that even Zardari and PPP are distancing themselves from him.
He will possibly now stand on behalf on the PML-N.
Great Ehtasab bhaijan. Thank you. God Bless Great Zardari. He has the potential to be the greatest Pakistani PM since Liaqat Ali Khan. Wouldn’t you agree? :k:
Maybe Aitzaz Ahsan is planning to move on as well, after dumping the lawyers and standing for election?
SCBA denounced for favouring Musharraf
LAHORE: Pakistan Bar Council Member Aziz Akbar Baig on Sunday denounced the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) for favouring President Pervez Musharraf’s rule. ** Talking to Daily Times, he said that SCBA President Aitzaz Ahsan, in an interview, said that lawyers had no objection on Musharraf rule. **“Lawyers will not interfere in his (president’s) constitutional rights if he doesn’t interfere in the judicial affairs,” Baig quoted Aitzaz as saying. He said that listening to Aitzaz, he realised that something different was brewing behind the scene. He said that Aitzaz should have not said so as no lawyer was ready to let Musharraf continue as the president. rana tanveer
