Aitzaz lobby pushing hard for PM's post.

I wonder how true these stories are. Ahsan would make an excellent PM.

LAHORE: Even as Makhdoom Amin Fahim of the PPP emerged as the frontrunner for the post of Pakistan’s PM, a group comprising influential professionals is pushing for lawyer-activist Aitzaz Ahsan.

‘‘Fahim represents the old feudal order. We need someone like Ahsan who has got ideas. He is the ideal man to lead Pakistan,’’ said a PPP leader involved in the talks. It’s because of this lobby’s work and support from Sharif and Imran Khan that Ahsan has stayed in the fray. ‘‘The final decision may go in favour of Fahim, but it will take time. We are not going to have the name of the next prime minister till next week,’’ said a Ahsan supporter in the party.

Ahsan is not a member of parliament and under house arrest rules, is not allowed to go out of his house till the new government is in place, but his supporters are working overtime to impress the party’s top leadership.

This exercise has shown up cracks within the PPP. After Benazir’s assassination, there is a huge leadership vacuum and Zardari is yet to be accepted by the entire party. ‘‘Because of this, he will go for Fahim, even though he has some differences with him as well.’’ But the Ahsan lobby seems to be working hard and nothing can be said for sure till the name is finally announced.

Re: Aitzaz lobby pushing hard for PM's post.

He is himself not interested at the moment (watch his interview with my friend Sohail Waraich posted by Yazdi) and feels that the next PM should be from Sind in the wake of recent sufferings of the people of Sind. It would be a huge surprise if Makhdoom Amin Fahim is not named as the new PM sometime tomorrow.

Re: Aitzaz lobby pushing hard for PM's post.

Overambitious Aitezaz is not someone Zardari would be comfortable handling on a leash. Makhdoom Amin however is a much easily manageable choice.

Re: Aitzaz lobby pushing hard for PM's post.

Aalsi- yet another example of you believing everything you read

1-Aitaz has already said Amin Fahim should be PM

2- He did not run in the election, thus is not eligible to be PM

Re: Aitzaz lobby pushing hard for PM's post.
