Aitzaz asks PML-N to back PPP nominee | PPP boycotts election

I think Sharif bratheran rather import President from foreign country like they are importing governor from England, rather than to give a chance to an honest and non-controversial Pakistani for the post of President.

Aitzaz asks PML-N to back PPP nominee - DAWN.COM

LAHORE, July 20: PPP leader Senator Aitzaz Ahsan has asked the PML-N to support Senator Raza Rabbani if it faces problems in finalising a nominee for the president’s slot.

“The government can support our nominee, Raza Rabbani, if it is facing problems in finalising its candidate, making him a joint candidate,” Aitzaz suggested at a press conference here on Saturday.

He said the government’s plea to change the presidential election schedule was “political” and not constitutional therefore, the court or the Election Commission could not change it. He said the PPP had nominated an honest and non-controversial person for the slot and other opposition parties and PM Nawaz Sharif should support him.

Aitzaz said if the government failed to have consultation on the appointment of the NAB chairman it could go to the Supreme Court.

“Deedar Shah and Fasih Bokhari were removed as NAB chairmen on the objection of then opposition leader Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan. We’ll see if Khurshid Shah’s objection is given the same weight,” he added.

The PPP leader said his party had decided not to turn to the Supreme Court in any case until December when Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry was due to retire.

Re: Aitzaz asks PML-N to back PPP nominee

Raza Rabbani is the right man in the wrong camp. But the question is if the the PPP is serious with its own stalwarts? I would be more happy to see PPP nominating him for the PM or the presidential slot if the party wins majority in 2018. But we know it is simply out of question.

Re: Aitzaz asks PML-N to back PPP nominee

PPP ko 5 saal pehlay raza rabbani q nahi nazar aya?

Re: Aitzaz asks PML-N to back PPP nominee

Past is past. PPP has suffered the mistakes they have done in last five years. Look for the future.

Re: Aitzaz asks PML-N to back PPP nominee

Why is PPP not nominating Zardari again?

Re: Aitzaz asks PML-N to back PPP nominee

Is that not good that PPP is moving away from family politics?

Future :omg:

Re: Aitzaz asks PML-N to back PPP nominee

I don't think this has anything to do with "moving away from family politics", otherwise the first thing would be to change the leadership within PPP first to show for it.

Re: Aitzaz asks PML-N to back PPP nominee

yes nice, amin fahim for PM and raza rabbani for president, when its sure like hell that they will not be selected... yehi auqat reh gai hay "kuch behtar politicians" ki PPP main...
aur Aitazaz, don't ask, this guy has lost all respect since he sided with zardari

Re: Aitzaz asks PML-N to back PPP nominee

You forgot Yousaf Raza Gilani and Raja Ashraf Parwez. They were both PPP men and worked as PMs' of Pakistan. They had no relation to party founder's family.

Re: Aitzaz asks PML-N to back PPP nominee

^ yes they did. They belong to the haramkhor baradri of the founder family.

Re: Aitzaz asks PML-N to back PPP nominee

Was any of Bhutto family "elected" as MNA?

Re: Aitzaz asks PML-N to back PPP nominee

Re: Aitzaz asks PML-N to back PPP nominee

Campaign launched by PPP for Rabbani - DAWN.COM

ISLAMABAD: The PPP launched its campaign for presidential candidate Raza Rabbani on Tuesday and succeeded in winning over the support of the Awami National Party (ANP) and the Balochistan National Party-Awami (BNP-A).

The PML-Q agreed to support the PPP nominee but only if he became the joint candidate of all opposition parties. And PML-Q president Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain declared in the presence of PPP leaders that no-one from his party would be a candidate. Earlier, the party had nominated Senator Saeedul Hassan Mandokhel as its candidate.

On the other hand, the Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam (JUI-F) told the PPP leadership that it could not promise to support Mr Rabbani because it was a partner of the PML-N in the ruling coalition.

A PPP delegation comprising its senior members spent a busy day on Tuesday, meeting leaders of the PML-Q, ANP, BNP-A and the JUI-F and seeking support for Mr Rabbani who also attended the meetings.

The PPP started the day with a meeting in the chamber of the Leader of Opposition in the National Assembly, Syed Khursheed Ahmed Shah, at Parliament House. The meeting decided that the PPP would approach all parties having representation in parliament and the provincial assemblies and request them to support Mr Rabbani.

The meeting was attended by Makhdoom Amin Fahim, former prime minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani, presidential spokesman Farhatullah Babar, Leader of Opposition in the Senate Chaudhry Aitzaz Ahsan and former information minister Qamar Zaman Kaira.

Afrasiab Khattak and Haji Adeel of the ANP and Senator Kalsoom Parveen of the BNP-A also joined the meeting and announced their parties’ support for the PPP candidate.

Later, a delegation headed by Khursheed Shah visited the residence of the PML-Q president. Chaudhry Shujaat later told reporters that no-one from his party would submit nomination papers for the election. He stressed the need for uniting the opposition and said his party would support a joint candidate.

Some TV channels quoted sources as saying that Chaudhry Shujaat had reminded the PPP leaders that Mr Rabbani had been criticising the PML-Q in recent days. But the claim was refuted by the PPP.

Mr Rabbani had opposed the PPP leadership’s decision to include the PML-Q in the ruling coalition in 2011 and had even resigned from a ministry in protest.

When contacted, PML-Q’s Information Secretary Kamil Ali Agha said his party had not announced unconditional support for the PPP nominee. Chaudhry Shujaat asked the PPP leaders to talk to other opposition parties, including the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf and the Muttahida Qaumi Movement, so that a joint candidate could be fielded against the government candidate.

Mr Agha said only a joint opposition candidate could create problems for the ruling party, otherwise, there would be no problem for the government given the numbers in parliament and provincial assemblies.

He said the PML-Q would abstain from the election if the opposition failed to come up with a joint candidate.

Khursheed Shah said the PPP team would meet PTI and MQM leaders soon to seek their support. The PPP leaders later went to the residence of JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman.

Later, talking to reporters, Maulana Fazl said he had told the PPP leaders that since it was the desire of the PML-N and the PPP to decide on a consensus candidate, it would be good for the federation if a joint candidate was agreed upon.

When contacted, JUI-F spokesperson Jan Achakzai said his party had not promised to support Mr Rabbani. “In principle, the party belongs to treasury benches so it is for the PML-N to decide,” he said, but complained that so far they had not been consulted by the PML-N over the presidential election.

“It is ironic that the opposition PPP has contacted us to seek our support, but our ally PML-N still does not have time to pay a courtesy call as required by etiquette.”

Mr Rabbani will submit his nomination papers at the Islamabad High Court on Wednesday (today).

This corrupt judge keeps on towing the line of NS. It is a shame that a low lying corrupt political CJ is still there. He should have been sacked when his son was involved in corruption with his consent.

**PPP announces boycott of presidential election - DAWN.COM
**

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) on Friday announced its decision to boycott the upcoming presidential election, DawnNews reported.

PPP’s former Law Minister of Sindh, Ayaz Soomro, informed the Chief Election Commissioner in writing about the party’s decision to boycott the presidential election.

Addressing a press conference in the federal capital city PPP’s presidential candidate and senior leader Senator Raza Rabbani said that his party was left with no other option but to boycott the poll.

Rabbani thanked other opposition partners for their support and said their favours could never be repaid.

The Awami National Party (ANP) and the Balochistan National Party - Awami (BNP-A) also announced a boycott of the presidential poll.

Senator Haji Adeel, belonging to the Awami National Party, said that his party had already announced that it would support any decision taken by the PPP.

He further said that the court had taken a ‘one-sided decision’ which was ‘unjust.’

DawnNews reported sources as saying that the Pakistan Muslim League - Quaid (PML-Q) had also decided to boycott the election for president.

The main opposition party’s decision came as it said that enough time was not given to campaign for the presidential election.

The Election Commission of Pakistan had originally announced Aug 6 as the date for the presidential poll. The ruling Pakistan Muslim Legue - Nawaz (PML-N) had then written to the election commission requesting to delay the polls as the announced presidential elections were falling in the last ten days of Ramzaan, when most of the lawmakers were to be busy performing Umrah or sitting in Aitekaf.

The ECP rejected the government’s request following which the PML-N filed a request in the Supreme Court of Pakistan seeking to hold the presidential elections before the last ten days of Ramazan.

The apex court later decided in favor of the PML-N and agreed to the July 30 sought by the government.

Pakistan’s largely ceremonial president is not elected by popular vote, but by the lawmakers in the Senate, National Assembly and the assemblies of the four provinces.

The PPP had fielded Raza Rabbani as it presidential candidate whereas the PML-N is contesting Mamnoon Hussain.

The Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaf has nominated Justice (retd) Wajihuddin and its party chief Imran Khan announced on Friday evening that the PTI, after holding consultations, had decided not boycott the presidential election.

Chief of the Awami Muslim League (AML), Shiekh Rasheed Ahmed, said that his party would also boycott the polling for the post president.

Re: Aitzaz asks PML-N to back PPP nominee

I think PPP should not have boycotted the election.
