No deaths reported yet. Pilot and a couple of passengers in hospital.

The highway 401 runs right outside the airport. Very sad incident. Heard on the news the pilot wasnt properly aligned for landing, he was coming down too high and had a sudden drop in altitude.

Other reports are saying the plane skidded off the airport and plunged into Etobicoke Creek which is just west of the airport.

So far it's mainly being blamed on the weather. No deaths so far, however, one of the passengers who made it off the plane supposedly has said that some people are quite badly injured.
Hopefully no deaths, insha'Allah.
In addition, Pearson Airport has been shutdown and all flights are now being diverted to Ottawa.

There is abig traffic jam out there...I turned on my car's radio and they were talking about a plane that skidded off the runway. The first thing that came to my mind was PIA..phew. It is kinda strange cuz it only rained for like 20 minutes...

It only rained for 30 mins or so, but it was BAD! Never seen such bad weather in the last little while.
Interestingly enough, an Air Canada plane crashed at the exact same sight about 25 years ago, but there was no fire.

Alhamdullilah no fatalities… and only 14 minor injuries have been reported so far. Airport Authorities commending the pilots who landed the plane expeditiously given the weather conditions :k: The airport was under red-alert all day due to lightning and thunderstorms…
It did skid and stop pretty close to the 401 though! - it overran the runway by about 200 metres.
Looking at the flames and the fire-riddled pieces, its pretty amazing that there were no major injuries.

Update on Umar Talib's report. There are now 24 confirmed people with minor injuries including a 1 yr old child who was rushed to the Toronto Sick Kids Hospital.
Major kudos to the emergency crew who were at the scene of the crash within 50 seconds of the crash!!! Buses were dispatched and everyone was safely evacuated before the fire broke out and hence no fatalaties. Alhamdulillah.

its certainly is very sad, I was also in that area... and I stopped in the near TimHortons because the weather was really horrible.. I saw the crashed plane in front of my eyes..
