Aik Qatra Khoon - A Novel on Karbala

Ismat Chughtai, who is most famous for her controversial short stories also written some beautiful novels. Ek Qatra Khoon (A Drop of Blood) by Ismat Chughtai, describes the historic Battle of Karbala and the martyrdom of the grandson of the Prophet Mohammed :saw2:, Hazrat Imam Hussein (AS). The story starts from the childhood of Hazrat Imam Hussein and the love and affection the Prophet showered on his grandchildren and tell us about the events till the tragic incident of Karbala.

Some critics say that this novel is the prose of Meer Anees ‘Marsiya’. Written in very simple language, the novel is worth reading. I’ve gone through this many times and always find it appealing.

What is the meaning of 'Marsiya'?

Re: Aik Qatra Khoon - A Novel on Karbala

Marsiya is the poetry where events related to Shahadat of Imam Hussain are mentioned. The word ‘Marsiya’ is derived from the Arabic word ‘Risa’, meaning a great tragedy or lamentation for a departed soul.

Here is the sample Marsiya:

Re: Aik Qatra Khoon - A Novel on Karbala

Its based on true incidents, but the language used by Ismat Chughtai for showing her devotion to Ahl e Bait take it near fiction. A must read.
