or QUIETLY wait outside.
did is ever occur to you that when people work, they need peace and quiet?
have you ever been taught any manners for not disturbing a college class?
…
REALLY, anything in life requires peace and quiet to focus on work.
do you feel that generally people have no idea of respecting other peoples’ need for being not distrubed, when at work or school?
how do you respond to someone who delibrately tries to disrupt your work.
Yes I’ve been through that. At times, it’s really annoying and a person is not able to concentrate on his/her work. If I do decide to tell someone politely to let me concentrate, I first look at the place. If I am sitting in cafeteria and 100+ people are talking to each other, then it wouldn’t make sense to ask them to hush up so that I can concentrate because I could rather go to Library etc but if it’s in class during class time or in office, then i would just politely tell them that I have work to do and most of the time, it works.
you're right, Nemo.
not asking to tell the cafeteria to be silenced for you.
but a class.
in presence of a professor.
but no. this dude feels entitled to bring his friend a cup of starbucks coffee in her class. and he expects that the lecture be interrupted so that she can drink the whole coffee while they chat in the classroom, only because it was said to the whole class that in 5 minutes, there will be a 10 minutes break.
the damned text message that he sent her to know exactly when to come in. while these idiots were been given a review for the final.

I can totally see where you're coming from and that is why sometimes I hate the freedom given in class, especially in college and university. It's good to give such freedom for emergency calls etc but from my experience, almost everytime it's not emergency. Not sure if Profs are allowed to do it but once the class time starts, you should tell them to stay in class until it's break time so no one can enter or exit. Again, from my experience, this freedom is not used for emergency but to person's own benefit.
well, the dude got his head handed back to him, from me, while his friend was asked to walk out of the class only after the period ended.
these kids need to know etiquettes of attending a college.

I know and that is why sometimes I feel that it's not fair (on Prof's part) that these students are given so much freedom. I mean you can walk out anytime, pack your bags and go home, give attendance at beginning of class and then go to Cafeteria for rest of period and come when the lecture is almost over. Things like these make me wonder if there really is a difference between college and elementary/high school?!
i meant there's another word more suited to be there :p
u killed it dude :(
I like professors who take a tough stand and outline that they will NOT tolerate the frequent in/outs during the class. Usually the first impression that u make on the spoiled brats, will likely last thru the entire semester.
teggy,
normally my college students donot want see me angered, when i am teaching. i have a responsibility and i am not going to teach a bunch of idle cotton candies. so yes, what i said is true, at least symbollically.
best,
Dushwari
