Sub Se Pehle Pakistan was the first track that gave Ahmad Jehanzeb a much needed boost. Then it was Laila Majnoon’s tracks ‘Ik Bar Kaho’ that gave him the breakthrough that a singer always dreams of. He is no doubt one of the few singers who have been classically trained that is why he mostly sings soul stirring slow songs. His music sense has made him a favourite with many and that is why he is giving the music of many telefilms and plays these days. His debut album Parastish is at last released and from the sights and sounds, it is a very promising album.
The album kicks off with Kaho Ek Din, an unusual number with slow tune. The lyrics are good and vocals make a beautiful combination.
Aaj Ki Raat is a beautiful combination of music as well as vocals. The semi classical song along with fast drum beat sounds is just too good.
Parastish, the title track is a slow but a very beautiful track, mainly a Hamd. The lyrics are beautiful and more than that the vocals attract the listener.
Mujhe Pyar Chahie, basically a song for the same titled play has been directed by Barkat Subhani.(it’s also on air on prime these days) It has a lot of variations that make it a very beautiful song. The use of classical rags is very beautiful and compels one to listen on.
Aap Ke Yaad continues the magic created by the earlier songs. Barsoon Ke Baad is a beautiful track with mesmerizing lyrics and slow music. Ahmad Jehanzeb has beautifully portrayed the feelings in the song. Though Ahmad has focused more on the slow and semi classical songs with a touch of pop in them, he has given a new versatility to his music and vocals that lend a mood to his songs.
The best song is of course the beautiful ghazal penned by Ahmad Fraz with the title Hans Ke Bola Karo. The ghazal was an instant hit after it was featured in the telefilm Intizaar.
The flip side kicks off with his earlier hit** Tu Ju Nahi,** another soul stirring songs with low drum beats. This song proved the very fact that Ahmad Jehanzeb is here to stay. Woh Milli Jam Se, is a totally different track. It is a fast beat track that shows Ahmad is good at singing any type of songs. Intizaar too follows the same pattern and is a hip-hop number.
Lagan Lagee is a Punjabi track and has a beautiful start. It is another commercial hip-hop song with beautiful lyrics and a catchy tune. Daal Main Kalaa is an interesting track with a hummable tune. This one is best for Mehndi functions, though the background tune is inspired by the famous Indian number Kuch Kuch Hota Hai. Koyee Janee Na is a track much inspired by his earlier track Tu Ju Nahin, though there are variations here and there and it is sung on a very low key note, the song doesn’t have much in it.
The album ends with a very beautiful slow song Aansoo that has some of the best lyrics of the whole album. The fusion between western music and classical one is quite good and that makes the track quite versatile.
All in all, the album is good. Ahmad has showed a great versatility in balancing classical and fast numbers. Ahmad has been a very good addition to our music scene.
