Ahmad Nadeem Qasmi born Ahmad Shah Awan on 20 November 1916 – died 10 July 2006, was an Urdu and English language Pakistani poet, journalist, literary critic, dramatist and short story author.

***Wo koi aur na tha chand khushk patte the
shajar se toot ke jo fasl-e-gul pe roye the
abhi abhi tumhen socha to kuch na yaad aaya

kali kali mein khizan ke chirag jalate the
tamam umr wafa ke gunahgar rahe
ye aur baat ki hum aadmi to ache the
shab-e-khamosh ko tanhai ne zaban de di
pahad gunjate the dasht sansanate the
wo ek bar mare jin ko tha hayat se pyar
jo zindagi se gurezan the roz marate the
naye khayal ab aate hain dhal ke zahan mein
hamare dil mein kabhi khet lahlahate the
ye iratiqa ka chalan hai ki har zamane mein
purane log naye aadmi se darate the
‘nadeem’ jo bhi mulaqat thi adhuri thi

I love his short stories. Sannata, Alhamd o Lillah, Ghar se Ghar Tak, Sat Bhirai, Ihsaan, Kapaas ka phool, Aalaan. He was encyclopedia of rural Punjab.

Tujh se kis tarha mein izhar-e-tamana karta
Lafz soojha to maani ne baghawat kar di
Mein to samjha tha k loat atay hain jaane wale
Tu ne to ja k judai meri qismat kar di
Mujh ko dushman k iradon pe bhi pyar ata hai
Teri ulfat ne muhabat meri adat kar di
Pooch beitha hon mein tuj se tere koochay ka pata
Tere haalat ne kaisi teri sorat kar di
Kya tera jism, tere husan ki hiddat mein jala
Rakh kis ne teri sonay ki si rangat kar di

Khuda karey key meri arz-e-pak par utrey
woh fasl-e-gul key jisey andesha-e-zawaal naa hou
yahaan jou phool khiley, woh khila rahey sadiyoun
yahaan khizaan kou guzarney ki bhi majaal naa hou
yahaan jou sabza ugey, woh hamesha sabz rahey
aur aisaa sabz key jis ki koi misaal naa hou
ghhani ghataaein yahaan aisi barishein barsaaein
key pathron sey bhi roaidgee mahaal naa hou
khuda karey key naa kham hou sar-e-waqaar-e-watan
aur iss key husn kou tashweesh-e-maah-o-saal naa hou
har aik fard hou tehzeeb-o-funn kaa oaj-e-kamal
koi malool naa hou, koi khasta haal naa hou
khuda karey key meray aik bhi hum-watan key liye
hayaat jurm naa hou, zindagi wabaal naa hou
