LAHORE: The legendary poet Ahmad Nadeem Qasmi died here Monday morning, leaving the world of Urdu literature poorer. Ahmad Nadeem Qasmi, 89 struck by some cardiac disorder was under treatment in the Intensive Care Unit of the Punjab Institute of Cardiology here. He was a chronic patient of ailing lungs and breathing trouble, but this time he was shifted to the hospital due to heart ailment.
Ahmad Nadeem Qasmi is a big name in literature and journalism. He was the one, after Prem Chand, who pioneered introducing rural culture in Urdu fiction.
Born in Khushab on November 20, 1916, Ahmad Nadeem Qasmi graduated from the Punjab University and started his humble career as clerk and then on to journalism excelled in almost all the creative fields-- a poet, litterateur, drama-writer and columnist etc. par excellence rising to the pinnacle of glory. During his long chequered career, he penned down nearly 50 books, while he was bringing out his own literary Magazine ‘Fanoon’.
