Imagine a Pakistani federal govt employee getting a 5 merla (25x50) plot in Islamabad (G-11 or G-12) for just 27,778 rupees in 1992. That would have been a dream come true for that federal employee. Because even at that time, the average price of land in G-12/4 was around 250,000 ruppes/meral. But the irony is that a federal employees never ever gets this rate.
Based on recent report presented to the Pakistani Senate almost 502 plots were give to different politicians/bureaucrats in 1989-92 on such low rates. You can read the report for more deatail.
One urdu newspaper has even published the names of these people, a majority of them are still in the govt and some of them are really big names in our bureaucracy. So the question is how does a federal govt get rid of its own corrupt members, or can the federal govt question them at least? Or do you think that the election commission or the Supreme court would take notice of this.
In todays Pakistan there are so many examples of open corruption, but you would hardly see any reform or effort from the govt to stop or curbing it.
Most government employee spend their lives serving this country. If a person who has spent well over 30 years serving the government and public, for a salary that averages at 8,000, gets a chance to make some money in a legal way, then this is a thing that must be encouraged.
There are government employee who are corrupt enough and usually they are the oneswho are there for such allotments. Still around 40% employee perform their duties honestly and they must be encouraged by providing them such allotments.
Politicians and military are the KINGs of our land, and the one who they should "serve" only suffer at their hands. Military dawgs get land in areas like Defence in Karachi for paltry amount per sq yard (may be Rs10-50).
Sir,defence is Defence Housing Authority and it was made for the armed forces.Secondly you dont know the figures because in army mostly after retiremnet these guys are alloted land or property.They pay only the amount which is spent on construction if its a housing scheme.So for example when the navy housing scheme was planned at zamzama clifton karachi the price of 350 yards house for the allotees was 1.6million who are the retired navy officers and the market rate was around 5.5 million to 6 million for the public.
But mostly you will find civillians living in these societies and schemes beacuse a retired officer cant afford to live in posh localities.No one complains when these officers get allotmenst in places like malir .The law and order situation of the country is going fom bad to worse everyone wants to live in a place where there is safety and in these housing schemes civilians do find safety and security.
The most corrupt is the bureaucracy because no matter what party comes into power it wont effect their malpractices.The politicians get the chance when their party comes into power but some of them change their parties on the basis of the outcome of elections.mostly the army is not corrupt only from the “star level” the brigadiers and above are involved in corruption.
The only way out for the country is a revolution.Masses which are not part of any of this can change the system not anyone from the present establishmnet.
Army officers are infamous for getting as much land as they can, far beyond what they are due. This is a well known avenue of corruption in Pakistan, used by those who can avail themselves of it, but mostly by the Army.
my father has a plot in defense in karachi, which he had been paying for over 15 years. a portion of his pay, which wasn't big by any standards, went to pay for that plot. he bought that peice of land fair and square, and it pisses me off to see these military hater saying that military is corrupt.
well there are pay variances in Pakistan..certain positions get more perks than others..ideally there shouldn;'t be free or subsidised plots..rather one large salary which covers all expenses.
Your father may not have been able to get more land during his time, or he may be in the minority of honest people. If its the latter, that would be great.
However doesn’t change the fact Army officers, esp Generals make millions out of land they are given, far more than just a little plot to retire on. No one said BB,NS are angels, but you ignore the fact that Army govts do the same, ignore retired Army generals living in mansions,ignoring Army families spending like millionaires, ignoring Army corruption known to all, ignoring the fact that Army runs Pakistan now and majority of its history.
