Or commonly known as the Arab Human Development Index. I was just reading parts of it and man its shocking. The level of human rights are down right near non-existance. What is amazing to me is that the “Arab world” by and large is one of the richest areas in the world. Though it is in the hands of a very small minority. Additionally it is also one of the worlds areas where human rights are at a lower level than Zimbabwe or Angola.
Its just sad to see so much wealth and so little respect for human life and human freedoms.

To be honest with you they dont give a F***. Their 18 year olds are driving bmw's, mercedes and what have you. No im not talking about few rich kids but average khaleejis! They are wealthy and a consumeristic society and they are living it biiiiig! i guess hamreeekans are just jealous of their wealth and lifestyle and keep portraying a gloomy picture of middle east. By the way have to been to any middle eastern country? see for yourself all those lash pashhh resorts, hotels, highways, recreation parks, malls and plenty of german luxury cars on the road. i say they dont need democracy, they are happy the way they are.

and yes, almost all families (specially in the Gulf countries) have housemaids and say something less than 1% do treat their maids with brutality, and i dont think u can find a society where all maids r treated well…

It wud be much better if you defined or listed the social/economic/political indicators applied to measure AHDI.
Kids driving around in beamers, partying with no end in sight is comparable to desi’s using hollywoood to describe Ammareeka.
How many universities does the ME have? How many schools do they have? How many third tier educational insititutions do they have? How many thesis are being written? What is the level of economic sophistication? do they have any labor laws or rights? what kind of political activities are allowed? religious tolerance, rights of minorities, women rights, all these things add up and you get quite an abject assessment. Pointing fingers at others really doesnt help in understanding one’s own problem.

American news orgs have done shows on the plight of filipino maids in Kuwait, pretty grewsome stuff. I remember one such news show and one filipino maid was in tears describing her ordeal and how she was raped by the family’s son. She went to the police and filed a report. The boy’s mother paid a visit to the police station and cleared the whole matter!
To the Pakistani defenders of Arabs, kids wake the f up! When it comes to their interest, Arabs forget their muslim brothers. IT’s them, their tribe and their arab brethern first. Pakistanis are their taxi drivers and construction workers as they’d proudly tell you.
