Hi, a few months ago I went to the dermatologist for acne spots. The aesthetician applied AHA (in the form of glycolic acid) to my face, and it worked out well for me. There was some mild shedding of skin, but after a few days my spots had faded considerably and my skin looked more fresh.
I've tried using AHA products from the market myself containing fruit acids, and they made me break out. SO, I think it's best to go to a dermatologist instead of a beauty salon because a Dr. and trained aesthetician can use the appropriate strength of AHA (alpha hydroxy acids) for your skin type.
Other than that AHA comes from fruit and dairy and their main purpose is to exfoliate your skin. Yogurt, milk, vinegar, lemon juice are all natural ingredients that contain AHA, which you can apply to your skin for a glowing complexion.
An AHA facial doesn't bring about noticeable results, if u want to reduce the scars then u'd need a couple of sessions of Glycolic Peels.. and this shud only be done by a good derm.. the last thing u need is chemical burns :)
U're skin practitioner wud do the procedure with glycolic acid.. u're derm wud decide on the strength and time it shud be left-on. It won't be a facial :)
They'll cleanse u're skin and apply vaseline to sensitive area's such as the corners of u're eyes, nose and mouth then they'll apply the peel and leave it on till u're derm instructs. Next they'll spray a neutralizer and apply a cold compress for 5 mins.. sunscreen and that's it!
If you go to a derm, its not a facial at all. Its an actual peel that takes off a few layers of skin. I know it sounds gross, but the results are outstanding. Never leave the house without sunscreen!!! I was not into sunscreen at all but Ive read up on it recently and its imperative.
