Is there an age limit to wear a lengha? I love lenghas because, being a gori, they remind me of ball gowns, and really prefer them to salwar kameez for very formal events, since I don’t wear a sari with particular grace. I recently wore a lengha to a local charity ball, and one of the other Pakistani ladies told me that women my age should wear salwar kameez, because it doesn’t look nice when we wear lenghas. Just curious to know whether I should start packing up my lenghas? By the way, my lenghas are fairly simple, with nice fabric but not too much kaam.

Age limit? I don't think there is one.
My mother recently went to a wedding where many of the ladies in her age group (50+) were wearing ghararas.
I guess it depends on the individual ....

I don't think there's an age limit -- particularly for the simple ones. In some parts of India (where much of my family originated) women wore ghararas on a daily basis. One of my father's aunts wore them every day until she passed away. A lot of older women will also wear slightly formal ones to a close family member's wedding. You can wear them whenever.

if u can wear it well and it makes you feel good then wear it! i've seen many older ladies wear lenghas and it looked good. one of my aunts wore a plain white gharara with really pale gold embroidery/kaam and it looked stunning on her.

for older women I would prefer ghararas over lehngas just cos ghararas have a more regal air to them.

Thanks for the tips - but the ghararas I have seen recently are a little too tight in the seat for my tastes. Does anyone have any pics of some ghararas that are designed differently?

The new style is more fitted. The traditional ones definitely should not be fitted at all. You should be able to specify that they use those yards and yards of fabric to make a proper traditional gharara :D

Age limit? I don't think so.... Of course there's something called "age-appropriate," so who knows..opinions will always differ..If you feel good wearing it, by all means go ahead.
