What is the largest age gap you know of between siblongs? How are they now? Did the age difference affect them?
I have only started noticing age gaps since my children will have a younger sibling. My SIL and youngest BIL are about 18 years apart , they have a great understandng, don’t know how they were when bil was a child but surely now they get along so well and can have a laugh and be like any other brother and sister.
I am getting worried sbout the age gap with mine, the younger 2 are not bothered they are more than happy to have a little one to play with but the eldest he’s concerned he will be busy by that time with his studies to be around much. I think it’s sweet he thinks this way but I do worry. I wish I hadn’t waited so long but we never know what Allah has planned for us.
I know someone who was 20 years older than his little sisters. He loves them to bits though, he's like a second dad with them, spoils them and disciplines them a lot :)
Personally I have a good relationship with my alla my sisters, but for different reasons, and it does make a difference cos of the age. With my eldest sister there's an 8 years gap but we treat each other like adults, but with another sister who's 2 years older than me, we're like silly kids.
Also depends on what kinda person you are as well I spose.
To be honest, age gap has very little to say how siblings relationship turns out later on. It has more to do with their nature etc etc. Let me give you an example:
My brother is 6 years older than me. Mine and his relationship is just fine, nothing too friendly.
My second brother is 1,5 years younger than me, we share a great bond. Now you would assume, shorter age gap thats why? Nope
My younger sister is 6 years younger than my second brother and share a great bond with him as well.
My eldest brother who is 13 years older than my youngest sister has a fine relationship with her, are quite jokey with each other etc. etc.
So dont worry too much. They will figure it out when time comes.
I'm 20 years older than my half sister. Was weird at first cos I've always been the youngest, but its cool now. However, I do sometimes get mistaken for her mum which can be awkward!
sis and I are only a few years apart but brother is 11 years younger. When he was little , we didn't have much in common. I was his babysitter for the most part but as he's grown up our relationship has gotten stronger.
My chachas oldest child is 20 and his youngest is 6, so there is a 14 year gap between them (1 brother between the 2 girls who is 10). Obviously they are not too close, as in talking all the time and friends. But the oldest one acts more like a mother figure to both siblings.
My dad is the oldest and his youngest sibling is a sister who is 21 years younger than him :s He treats her like a daughter more than a sister, and she acts like he is more of a father figure to her than older brother.
I am the youngest of my siblings. there is a sixteen years difference between my eldest brother and me.
I know a girl who used to work with me. they were a dozen brothers and sisters. her oldest brother was in mid fiftees while she was in mid twenties.
I suppose this is not as uncommon as I thought then, I do know a few people with age gaps but really never even thought about how it was for them because it wasn't anything I ever thought about till now.
I have huge age differences from my siblings & least is of 7 years. Age gaps between siblings really affects your relationship. My bros behave like as if they are my father, thats good & fine but there were some things that have an affect like when I was kid my bros had some other interests & activites from me as they were teenagers at that time & when I grew up they had different interests again. Nobody was of my age to play with me . What they liked to play was cricket, football & stuff but i was not at all interested in those stupid games
Personally I think parents should not have such huge age differences, maximum 4 years of gap is fine I think
My 3 kids have 4 years between them , now my eldest is 18 he doesn't play with my 10 year old so much, his interets have changed as hes older, sometimes even the 14 year old and him differ too.
I was speaking to hubby earlier, his view is that if it was so bad then the first place it would be mentioned to have lids closer in age would be the quran. I know everyones circumstances are different, i hope ours works out inshAllah.
My sister is 8 years younger than me and we share a great relationship… Sometime it feels like she is 8 years older than me the way she advice me for everything :hinna:
