Ofcourse stats dont speak tell the full story and this one definitely doesnt. Plus i was wondering if anybody can figure out how many ODIs did Agarkar play and how many of them resulted in an India win. And how many Akram played and how many of them resulted in a Pak win.
Another reason i can think why Agarkar probably has a higher wicket/ODI than Akram is that Akram has bowled most of his games alongside other great wicket taking bowlers like Imran, Waqar, Akhtar etc so he’s had stiff competition. Meanwhile Agarkar might not have had a tough battle hogging wickets (vs srinath? prasad?)
Another interesting stat. Akram has lost 40% (145 of the 356) matches he's played for Pak. Agarkar has lost 43% (63/145) matches that he's played for India. Ofcourse this means that Akram is better than Agarkar but one would have expected the gap to be even wider.
Now one would say that HEY! agarkar is a kid he's played only 145 matches while Akram has played 356 matches! There is no comparision. Yes, i agree. Therefore i figured out the number of matches Akram lost in his first 145 games. And the number is surprisingly similar to Agarkar's: 62!
Conclusion. In their first 145 games, both Agarkar and Akram have lost 43% of the matches for their country. Does this mean Agarkar is much underrated than Akram?
Akram played in 199 matches that Pakistan won and took 326 wickets at an average of 18.86. He scored 1830 runs in those matches at an average of 21.03
Agarkar played in 75 matches that India won and has taken 148 wickets in those matches at an average of 20.25. He has scored 334 runs in those matches at an average of 18.55 in those matches. Akram have played in 124 more matches that his team won compared to Agarkar. Akram has a better average with both bat and ball in the matches that Pakistan won compared to Agarkar's averages in the matches India won. Let's see where Agarkar ends up by the time he is done but personally I dont think he will come even close to the legend Wasim Akram.
Forget the averages just look at the huge number match difference between Akram and Agarkar.
I think that person compared the STATS which I think is legimate since its to do with STATS only and I think its not even worth comparing the talent Wasim have/has with Agarkar. As long as its stat I don't mind how ever the last bit on that forum which talks about match fixing I agree with the writer on that.
I am a data person but here I won't even think of presenting any data to compare the two. You present such data for comparison purposes and frankly speaking its a joke to compare a player like agarkar with akram. I think its an insult for the great wasim akram that we are even comparing him.
Such crap can only generate from a teenage mind who obviously has started following cricket in late ninties when agarkar made his cirkcet debut. People who have followed cricket since 80's won't even think of doing it. I am talking about those who have seen akram throughout his career from the very starrt till his end. Why the hell I am continuously writing this post? just one last thing. Akram is the only bowler I have seen who was capable of bowling 6 different wicket taking deliveries in an over. Can you even imagine agarkar doing it?
THE FORMAT OF ONE DAY MATCHES IS A JOKE TO ANY SERIOUS FOLLOWER OF THE GAME AND ONE DAY MATCH STATISTICS DESERVE TO BE PRINTED ON TOILET PAPER.
Tendulkar, Srikkanth, Ranatunga, Sehwag etc have won one-day matches with their bowling. Srikkanth has taken 5 wickets twice in One day matches. What does that tell you.
Forget about Agarkar. I am sure if one did a lot of research, one-day statistics of many other mediocre players would be found comparable to Akram.
Comparing players based on One-day matche statistics is like judging a GOVINDA movie at the Cannes Film festival.
Any player who bats below No. 5 is likely to have a low One-day average since he mostly bats in a "hit or get out" situations.
Similarly, if a bowler has taken 2-3 wickets before the 40th over and he is brought on again in the slog overs...it is very likely that he will end up with a 5 wickets haul...since he would be bowling to batsmen who are willing to throw their wickets away.
the only place where agarkar has done better is that he has taken a 6 wkt haul against australia....
another lie in that original post was of the number of runs per match....
wasim has 3717 rnus in 356 matches (almost 10.4 runs/match)
agarkar has 1088 runs in 145 matches (which is something close to 7.5 runs per match)....
their batting averages r both around 16.5....
and if anyone even does someting like comparing their bowling than that guy can only be called an idiot....
Wasim Akram, legends of cricket rank 21st, 23rd on the ICC Wisden list of greatest cricketers of alltime, Wisden ranked #1 of alltime ODI bowler, 11 in Test matches...
