Re: Aftificial Sweetners

sorry misspelled the title.

Re: Aftificial Sweetners

Have you tried Splenda??...sometimes I use it in desi desserts and halvas...there is also half sugar..where you only add half the amount.

Re: Aftificial Sweetners

Splenda and Tropicana taste the closest to sugar..

Re: Aftificial Sweetners

If you are not used to it then you will always find an aftertaste in all sugar substitutes. Some of those sugar substitutes have a mild and some have a very strong after taste. For example Sweet and Low has very strong aftertaste and Splenda has very mild after taste. If you keep on consuming them then you get used to that after taste and won't feel a bit after a while.

Re: Aftificial Sweetners

Yes, Mirch is right you will just have to get used to it. I have tried splenda in chai and even that I don't like.
I don't advise anyone to use artificial sweetner unless you have prediabetes or diabetes and want to keep your blood sugar in control because sweeteners have not been around long enough to know the long term side effects of it.

Re: Aftificial Sweetners

thanks everyone. i do use splenda sometimes while making desserts(usa half sugar and half splenda), but cant enjoy my tea with it.

Re: Aftificial Sweetners

300-400 calories with just tea? dang how many cups do you drink and how many teaspoons of sugar per cup?

there are 100 calories in a can of coke and there are 10 teaspoons of sugar they say in that, so you drinking 8 cups of tea with 5 teaspoons of sugar each cup? or 16 cups with 2.5 sugars?

1 teaspoon of sugar has about 16/24 calories.(depending on how you meaasure, level or rounded)

anyway i use both Aspartame and Sucralose base granulated sweetner, available from tescos. they are 2 different versions, i found the sucralose one better.

the anying aftertaste does dissapear over time when you stop adding raw sugar into your food.

and you find your tea and coffe start tasting of tea and coffee instead of that yucky sweet taste. which is great.

Re: Aftificial Sweetners

yes 7-8 cups of tea /day and i take my tea with milk and 1/2 tsp sugar, trying to control but i am addicted to it.

Re: Aftificial Sweetners

**i used to take 40 spoons of sugar every single day in 10 cups of tea a day over God knows how many years...must be over at least two decades then guess what...i was diagnosed with diabetes [not because of sugar but thanx to my sweet genes...haha] and i started substituting sugar with TWIN sugar and now i'm used to it. i do NOT get after taste so much so that now i honestly do NOT like sugar as i knew it.

start using any brand and u'll be fine in no time. enjoy!**

Re: Aftificial Sweetners

i use candarel. tastes the best.

Re: Aftificial Sweetners

do they have side effects? cuz i prefer these subsitute (due to some odd work place availability reasoning), but the discretion written on Sweet n low made me get back to regular sugar.

Re: Aftificial Sweetners

^^ please elaborate on the "discretion" part, i know there are lot of scare stories about artificial sweetners, i think mainly made up by the big sugar companies/food industry, there is no scientific proof, we have been eating sweetner for decades and no proof of anything bad.

alos people have written artificail sweetner makes them feel hungry, doh - they are usually reducing sugar as a weightloss program so obviously they will feel hungry it has nothing to do with the sweetner.
