so what do you think os going to happen with these teams, and what in your view should happen? add other teams if you want, USA for example
france we already know domenech is out, probably some big cleaning house, much of their team is aging
england, I dont think fabio will stay, i think he will be forced out. here I have serious doubts whether the FA and whoever the mgr will be, would have the backing and the strength to do a massive overhaul.
italy, lippi gone, much of the squad gone by 2012, there is enough talent in the ranks to construct a team which puts Italy in a better position than england by miles and france by some.
US- I think there will be a new manager, the team for the most part will stay unchanged.
Other teams that will be forced to do some soul searching soon will be Portugal and mexico
The Premiership is a top league not because of the English but in spite of them. If you took out the foreign stars it would be ordinary at best and therein lies the problem for England
Re: aftermath for underperfoming teams..england, france and italy etc
Italy will have a good coach in Prandelli who will select players on current form and performance not some old age losers. I expect them to be strong again come Euro 2012 qualifiers.
France have the most problems but their new coach is a sound one. Not sure what kind of overhaul will he make. so it remains to be seen. They have a good bunch of players and they should be a force if managed properly.
England have the biggest dilemma. Fabio wont stay. He contradicted himself preceding this worldcup waiting for barry to be fit till the last moment after claiming he will only pick players on performance and fitness...As a result, half fit Barry was atrocious througout the worldcup. They need a mental overhaul with a more flexible coach who can play various formations like other teams can. All major teams are playing more creative formations while he stuck to 442 and NEVER once changed it in any game.... players can never perform consistently when they play in positions they are not used to.
Re: aftermath for underperfoming teams..england, france and italy etc
GA, the same can be said of Italian football, ok they won it last time, luckily i must add.
Just the other day, Cannavaro was mentioning it in the aftermath of their failing at the WC, is that they to do not have talent coming thru, u can go thru their top sides in Serie A and they are dominated by South American players, not one Italian was in the Inter Milan team that recently won the treble.
I agree with your comment on foreign players in our league has hindered the development of young talent coming thru, but it also the failing of youth development i have a gripe with, they do not teach/nurture the must needed skills to make it has a good player, ball control, techincal ability, etc. and because of these failing we can’t produce a ‘messi’ or and ‘ozil’ etc. like other european countries can.
Not quite, while Inter has always had a more international flavour, when you look at the next 5 teams, there is quite a bit of italian talent.
youth development is a huge issue in england, and one that needs to be addressed. I for one was unhappy when they lifted the limit on foreign players with the whole EU thing, it has been bad for england. there was not a dilemma like england is in now, going back to 80s and 90s.
However all is not dark, in european u21 championships, for all the lovefest people have to spain and portugal, england did make it to semifinals in 2007 and finals in 2009. something the national team has not been able to do, so the gulf is in developing the u21s the way others have done in the next phases in their careers.
okay, so france..do we see departure of notables on the team with the new manager starting? gallas, viera, henry, rosciky, anelka?
france's demise was the most surprising for me this worldcup
France'd demise was a long time in the making. It was most unsurprising for me as they sucked in Euro 2008 and qualifying campaign. I expect new coach to boot out gallas, viera and Henry.. New team will be formed around the nucleus of Lloris, Ribery, Benzema, Gourcuff, Nasri etc.
Re: aftermath for underperfoming teams..england, france and italy etc
For sure France will need to go back to the drawing board, a few of the current squad with some fresh young talent. I dont expect to see some 7/8 players of the current squad to be national picture come the qualifying games for the Euros.
Re: aftermath for underperfoming teams..england, france and italy etc
what about portugal, they did not proceed to Quarter Finals, and i think the may have an issue with age of players in a couple of years, so keep em until euro or use euro to bring new faces. although their loss was not like that of france italy or england
