After school schedule

I can’t get my kids into a routine after school. I am struggling to have one thing complete and then move on to other things.

should I tackle school work and projects first or snack time first or after school activities?

Please share yours and tips that have helped you and your kids.

Re: After school schedule

my nieces and nephew had a very flexible routine. the key is the kid's mental willingness and readiness to do school work. the bottom-line must be to complete the work before going to bed 'on time'. what i believe and i think what works is to give the child freedom and flexibility to do his/her homework and that comes through inculcating the the sense of responsibility in the child from the very beginning.

Re: After school schedule

Njgal, here's my kids after school routine:

Arrive home at 3pm
3-4 pm: snack, sabaq revision
4 pm, 3 days a week, we head off to masjid for Islamic school.
6:30 pm home.
6:45pm - 7:15 pm dinner
7:15 pm - 8 pm school homework
8 pm, get ready for bed

On the 2 days when we don't go to the masjid, they get to play for an hour, then do homework. Rest of the timeline is the same.

Arrive back from school at 3.40ish son gets changed eats n is off to masjid by 4pm, this Is 4 days a week,

Daughters at home with me after school, she eats watches a bit of tv o plays,

Son returns by 5.30 he plays about til 6 then both sit down do homework, they have their meal again at about 7-7,30ish n in bed by 8.30

U jus need to try and put them in a rountie njgal, slowly introduce it to them, I personally think they need a break from school work for a few hours

Also njgal I limit the homework time to about half hour as they seem more interested, n this will include either reading, worksheets o homework bought bak from school.

Re: After school schedule

thanks for your suggestions mommies.

my kids come back from school at 4. They seem a bit tired so I let them have some snack and playtime. They do their homework. Clean their room, showers then dinner and last thing is Quran classes online and then bedtime.

I wonder if I can push their Quran classes a bit earlier. Every activity feels rushed. Am I alone in this?

Re: After school schedule

Wow kids nowadays are so busy!

Re: After school schedule

ISnt suppose to be shower first then rest of the stuff?

Re: After school schedule

^Some people shower before going to bed. If thats what you meant.

Normal once shower when they get up, as you produce a lot of sweat while sleeping ;)

Re: After school schedule

Decent, is it better to take Quran classes online than masjid? Please tell me wat decided to take it online and give me more info. Charges etc.

Re: After school schedule

Well our son used to go to Madarsa 5 times a day but we observed that it was getting too hectic for him. To much time was consumed in travelling to and from Madarsa. That also required him to be in proper dress (as per season). At home he does not have to dress for the season, no travel time etc. We decided that we will have him finish 1st Para at the Madarsa and then finish rest of this Quran online. He mashallah finished his Quran in under 12 months getting lesson online. We were paying $100 for 5 days a week. Its a bit on high side but because we were really satisfied with the Mual'lim (teacher), we decided to keep him.

Re: After school schedule

Hmmm, is he in pakistan? Its quite expensive. Please PM his info thanks

Re: After school schedule

No we are in canada and we are using

quranreading.com

there are many other services (just google) who charge $50 per month and I am sure they are as good. We decided to stick with quranreading.com because our kid was doing well under the specific mual'lim

Re: After school schedule

One kid is in 5th grade and the other kindergarten:

Arrive home just before 3: put away their stuff, then the fifth grader takes his bath while the kindergartner plays and I look at her take home folder and talk. Fifth grader does his namaz.

3:00 Lunch and snack (yes, they eat a proper lunch after they get back as they hardly eat anything they take to school).

4:00 Fifth grader's Quran teacher arrives at home (3 days a week), he may begin reading while he is waiting for him to arrive. I take kindergartner for her bath.

5:00 By this time fifth grader has read Quran, done maghrib paryers. Begins on school work/ kumon/ Sunday school work etc. While I teach kindergartner for half an hour. Then she does online Quran classes 3 days a week and plays.

7:00 By this time fifth grader has done all work and Isha prayers. Its his free time.I give them dinner and kindergartner goes to bed around 7:30-7:45. Asleep by 8:15

8:30 Fifth grader goes to bed
