I felt for people who were poor and had to skip dinner couple of days just because they had to pay bhatta

Must be a terrible experience to live in such an environment. You said you were well-off and managed to fund them, but why those people were not spared who were hand-to-mouth? And it means you have to be a bhatta payer to live in the city?
