Afridi's Retires from tests

Breaking News:

**Well, we are hearing news from the ground (not fully confirmed at the moment) that Shahid Afridi has just told Jim Maxwell on radio that the Headingley Test will be his last.

but we have a little more news on Afridi. He has nominated Salman Butt as his successor, but says it will be a board decision. He is struggling with a thigh injury, apparently. **

well that is what they are talkng about in the commentary box. Rameez saying this is T20 stuff form Afridi taking this emotional decision without consulting anyone ;)

Re: Afridi’s Retires from tests

:rotfl: I think he should start his own Comedy Circus

And who the F is he to “nominate” a captain? yeh koi khilafat/badshahat hay? He is doing nothing but sowing the seeds of further division.

Re: Afridi's Retires from tests

There is still time to bring Younis Khan back as test team captain and end this new drama right away.

waqar confirming the news with Paul Allot.

Re: Afridi's Retires from tests

ek test dere aayad durast aayad

:smack: no, please. We don’t want one drama queen to replace the other.

No thank you. No need to bring another mental case.

Kudos to Afridi for realizing his limitations and walking away unlike some of the others who refuse to admit their shortcomings and keep playing on without contributing.

Re: Afridi's Retires from tests

In the present circumstances I believe Salman Butt is the best choice we have but we badly need Younis back as a test player

Shahid Afridi, the Pakistan captain, has said he will retire from Test cricket following the second Test against Australia at Headingley starting on Wednesday. He has not yet informed the PCB of his decision. Salman Butt, the vice-captain, is likely to take over the leadership in the second Test.

I was not very keen to play Test cricket but the board ask me to see how I felt,” :hoonh: Afridi told Sky Sports. "My temperment is not good enough to Test cricket and we need a proper batsman or a proper bowler.

"I injured by side in the Asia Cup and am still struggling. I can’t carry it in Test cricket where you need to be at full fitness. I’m enjoying one-day and Twenty20 so I’ll concentrate on that. It’s very difficult playing Tests after four years so it’s better to leave this cricket.

Ijaz Butt, the PCB chairman, told Cricinfo that the board was not aware of the decision. “We’ll make some decision when he comes and tells us but as of now we have not been informed,” Butt said.

Afridi made the surprising announcement to BBC Radio after leading Pakistan in a 150-run defeat in the first Test at Lord’s. He was out to rash shots, for 31 and 2, in each innings. Afridi said he no longer had the temperament for the five-day game after what was his first Test in four years.

Yawar Saeed, Pakistan’s manager, told Cricinfo that Afridi had a side strain and felt “that he shouldn’t keep a specialist out of the side.”

“Temperamentally he feels not comfortable with the format so Leeds will be his last Test.” Yawar said. “Salman Butt was appointed vice-captain for the tour and he will take over unless the PCB meets and decides otherwise. But as per procedure, he will take over.”

More to follow …

Re: Afridi's Retires from tests

Lets see our options from current touring side

Salman Butt
Shoaib Malik (anyone but him)
Kamran Akmal

Muhammad Asif
Danish Kaneria

from out of current squad add

Younus
Yousuf (you never know with Pakistan's cricket)

all other players are just too junior/new to international cricket

btw, there also is a posibility that PCB will recall MISBAH and make him captain..

Re: Afridi's Retires from tests

^^ We should have Younis as Capitan, Sarfaraz Nawaz as Chairman of PCB and should charge certain fee to media to attend their news-conference and publish their conferences...

off course comedy shows are always expensive to go to

Re: Afridi’s Retires from tests

I dont think its a brainless decision. It is a mature and brave decision. Timing can be debated. but look at his statement on cricinfo that ‘my temperament is not good enough for test cricket’. Had he been an ordinary player, he would have been reprimanded for his shot but as a captain he has realized he is not setting the best example for young players. Now who among the present and past crop has admitted to his limitations like ever?

Hope to see him continue in ODIs and T20. :k:

Re: Afridi's Retires from tests

^ admitting something that no one knows is more credible than something that everyone knows from long. But yeah he gets some brownie points on this...

If PCB had any ‘stuff’ in it they should remove Afridi from captaincy for informing media of ‘resigning’ from Test & captaincy before telling PCB IMO :chai:

Disfunctional and unprofessional.

worst times in Pak's history.

It is important to understand that Afridi was always going to be a makeshift option till Pakistan could get a proper test captain. I think everyone knew that and if PCB, players or fans were thinking otherwise then there were mistaken.

Even fans including me, who were supporting his appointment knew that he is the best temporary fix. However I still think that he should stick for few more games before changing his mind/retiring. For a change they should learn to stick to a decision.

Re: Afridi's Retires from tests

We have gone form Yousef to Afridi and now probably to salman. Just when you think we cant sink any lower, we do.
