Re: Afridi, Younus get Pride of Performance Award..
c'mon guys it's not like he's been conferred an order of Pakistan type award (nishaan/hilaal/sitara/tamgha) which is based on lifetime or long term achievements... pride of performance is an annual award based on someone's extraordinary performance during that year.
Younis and Afridi performed well for the country in 2008... the award is conferred in 2009.
It's just that the timeline of events is such that their recent shenanigans have been disgraceful... but it doesn't take away their past performance.
Here's an analogy from academia:
A student achieves all A grades in his courses in University in the year 2008, and makes the Dean's List... award to be conferred to him in the graduation ceremony in June 2009.
In January 2009, the student is involved in plagiarism, is reprimanded by a failing grade in the course and is put on probation for the next year. This, however, does not take away his Dean's List status for the previous year, and will still get the award in June 2009.
^ I doubt student will get the award in June 2009 after being involved in plagiarism.
I can tell you from experience as a Professor - I see it all the time - it may be conflicting to think about it, but the institution's policy defines a Dean's List award by year, not by overall performance. Besides, students do stupid things sometimes out of desperation which doesn't necessarily reflect on their ability and overall performance during their tenure at the University... their integrity will be questioned... professors will be more watchful of them, but won't deny any recognition that they are deserving of.

The student commits a crime and is jailed, will he still get the award? That is how I view what afridi did. He didn't deserve the award, we have just legitimised cheating.
Moreover the student analogy does not apply here. Afridi is an international palyer and youngsters look up to people like him as a role model, unlike a student who has done well in one uni. To grant Afridi pride of performance is giving a message to our youngsters that yes you can cheat, you can humiliate your country but you can still be rewarded, so carry on cheating.
Re: Afridi, Younus get Pride of Performance Award..
^ how can you call cheating a mere controversy? the thing is he doesn't learn after the first time. Now how will you react to a habitual cheater? by making him captain and giving award?
